1 Report on Training Training days: , Training topic: Genetic improvement and artificial insemination Training place: Shirak and Lori marzes 1. Aims and objectives of the training The aim of the training was to teach the veterinarians about the new methods and technologies of genetic improvement and artificial insemination. The other objective was teaching the participants to the new techniques by showing and telling them the real facts and outcomes of international experience. From the point of animal health issues the Artificial Insemination (AI) is one of the best methods for preventing some gynecology infection diseases which are being spread from bulls; the diseases are brucellosis, campylobacteriosis, trichomonosis, etc. 2. Training participants The participants of the training were 30 veterinarians and also 5 farmers from Shirak and Lori marzes. Among them were two woman veterinarians. Most of the participants are state veterinarians, but they provide also private veterinary services. Farmers who take participation in the training were interested in the techniques of artificial insemination and genetic improvement in order to practice and apply those techniques in their own farms. For more details please see the list of participants in the Annex Training Topics and Methodology The main topic of the training was Genetic improvement and artificial insemination, which includes Anatomy and physiology of cow reproductive organs, bull selection for taking sperm for Artificial insemination, heat detection, semen handling, artificial insemination Technique in Cattle, Estrus Cycle Synchronization. The training was taught through power point presentation and professional videos with the use of the projector, notebook, besides tools and equipments were used for artificial insemination during the practical training. 4. Challenges and Solutions Nothing challenging happened during the trainings. Everything passed in a proper manner. 5. Outcomes and Achievements The participants of the training were very interested in the presented topic; especially they pay more attention to the new information and methods of artificial insemination. Some of the participants provide different veterinary services. After the training most of them were very interested in AI, the least not only imposes genetic improvement, but also has socioeconomic impact, which results on reducing the poverty and the spread of diseases. Overall the training had 1
2 35 participants; during the training were shown 4 presentations and 5 videos, the trainer show the use, preparation of tools and materials needed for AI up to the last step. 6. Training Evaluation With the help of feedback questionnaire the training is being evaluated. More details are provided in the Annex Conclusion and Recommendations Overall, the questionnaire results and the participants behavior show that the conducted training was very useful and effective. The training materials were very appropriate and easy usable. Moreover, the participants express their gratefulness and offer some other topics which they would like to be taught in the future. Particularly, the participants have a requirement for more practical trainings and workshops, meetings with the farmers, to be informed about the advantages of AI. 8.
