(Food Technology), B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) and B.Tech. (Poultry Technology). Thiru P. Balakrishna Reddy, Hon ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu participated and handed over the admission letters to the first selected candidates and felicitated. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presided. Dr. C. Balachandran, Dean, MVC was present. Earlier, Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Chairman of the Admission Committee & Controller of Examinations, TANUVAS welcomed the gathering. VETERINARY OPHTHALMOLOGY MEET AND FREE ANIMAL EYE CAMP The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, MVC organized the first National Veterinary Ophthalmology Meet with the focus on Visit us at : 1 Diagnostic protocols and its current perspectives in veterinary ophthalmology and free Animal Eye camp at the Ophthalmology Unit on

2 and , respectively. Thiru. P. Balakrishna Reddy, Hon ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the camp in the presence of Thiru. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Principal Secretary to Government of Tamil Nadu, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Department and Dr. S. Thilagar Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS. Dr. C. Balachandran, Dean, MVC and Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Director of Clinics, TANUVAS were present. Veterinary ophthalmic surgeons from all parts of the country participated in the meet. In the Animal Eye Camp held on , a total of 46 pets including dogs and cats besides birds, horses, goat, reptiles and fishes were treated. CALVING FESTIVAL Vice Chancellor, TANUVAS explained the aim of conducting the calving festival and requested the farmers to utilize the emergency phone call service number He also said that besides providing animal ambulance service, the scheme has addressed the infertility problem in Kancheepuram district and has achieved success in increasing the milk yield in the treated cows. Tmt. Maragatham Kumaravel, M.P., Kancheepuram participated. Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Director of Clinics, TANUVAS and Principal Investigator of the scheme, Dr. N.K. Sudeep Kumar, Director of Extension Education, TANUVAS and Dr. V. Ramesh Saravana Kumar, Director, CAPS, TANUVAS and officials of the Department of Animal Husbandry were also present. Dr. Cecilia Joseph, Professor and Head, Department of Clinics, MVC and the District Co-ordinator of the scheme and Dr. P. Veeramani, Assistant Professor and Head, FTC, Kancheepuram made necessary arrangements. NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON AUGMENTING ANIMAL PRODUCTIVITY A Calving Festival was organized to commemorate the synchronized calving of 250 infertile cows diagnosed as pregnant after oestrus synchronization under the NADP project on Animal Mobile Medical Ambulance for rural veterinary care in Tamil Nadu and to create awareness about the importance of the pre, peri and postpartum care in pregnant animals at Alisoor village, Kancheepuram district for one week from to Thiru P. Balakrishna Reddy, Hon ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu participated in the festival on , stressed the need to reduce infertility in cattle to enhance production and reproductive status of the animals in Tamil Nadu in his address and interacted with the beneficiaries of the scheme. Dr. S. Thilagar, VC&RI, Namakkal and Animal Nutrition Society of India (ANSI) had jointly organized a two day National Workshop on Augmenting animal productivity through emerging technologies to ensure food security in the era of climate change on and Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS inaugurated the workshop and in his presidential address, stated that the eco-friendly livestock production system has to be evolved to minimize the ill effects of 2

3 climate change. Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, Director, ICAR - National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bangalore, the chief guest, released the compendium and delivered the special address. Dr. A.K. Tyagi, Secretary, ANSI delivered the key note address. Dr. V. Ramesh Saravana Kumar, Director, CAPS, TANUVAS and Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Namakkal felicitated. A total of 14 technical sessions including mitigation of methane emission, climate resilient livestock and poultry farming technologies and socio-economic impact of climate change were arranged. In the Farmers-Scientist interaction session, a total of 25 livestock farmers and 20 poultry farmers from Namakkal, Karur, Salem, Erode and Tiruchirapalli districts participated and benefitted. A total of 136 scientists, faculty and scholars of SAUs, deemed universities, ICAR institutions, veterinarians and related industry personnel across India participated. The valedictory function was held on Dr. L. Gunaseelan, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, MVC participated as chief guest and delivered a special address. Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Namakkal presided over the function. Dr. V. Ramesh Saravana Kumar, Director, CAPS, TANUVAS felicitated. Dr. M.R. Purushothaman, Professor and Head, Department of Animal Nutrition, VC&RI, Namakkal presented the workshop report. Earlier, Dr. A. Natarajan, Professor and Head, AFAQAL, Namakkal welcomed the gathering and Dr. K. Sivakumar, Professor and Head, Department of Livestock Production Management, VC&RI, Namakkal proposed vote of thanks. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE An International conference on Facing challenges together for sustainable livestock and poultry health A local initiative for global solutions was organized by VC&RI, Namakkal on and Dr. P. Sadasivam, former Dean, VC&RI, Namakkal inaugurated the conference and released the compendium. Dr. 3 Parimal Roy, Director, ICAR-NIVEDI delivered felicitation address. Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Namakkal presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. Dr. K.M. Palanivel, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, VC&RI, Namakkal and Organizing secretary welcomed the gathering and Dr. A. Raja, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology, VC&RI, Namakkal and co-organizing secretary delivered vote of thanks. A total of 132 research papers were presented and 110 researchers from United States of America, Oman, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu participated in the conference. Dr. Bhusan Jayarao and Dr. Suresh V Kuchipudi from the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, The Pennsylvania State University, USA presented lead papers. Dr. S. Ponnudurai, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Parasitology and Co-Organizing Secretary proposed vote of thanks.

4 NATIONAL TRAINING Animal Husbandry Department participated. On conclusion, Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Namakkal delivered the valedictory address and distributed certificates to the participants. The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, MVC organized a 21 days National Training Programme on Advanced imaging and interventional protocols in disease diagnosis and management in farm and pet animal practice from to A total of 25 participants from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu attended. Dr. S. Prathaban, Director, CAFT Centre and Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine presented the training report in the valedictory Programme. Dr. C. Balachandran, Dean, MVC distributed the certificates and delivered the valedictory address. Dr. L. Gunaseelan, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, MVC felicitated. HANDS ON TRAINING The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, VC&RI, Namakkal conducted a hands-on training in Small animal ultrasound, endoscopy and haemodialysis from to A total of five veterinarians from Kerala State 4 TECHNICAL SEMINAR VUTRC, Karur organized a technical seminar on Fly control in livestock and poultry farms for the benefit of veterinarians working in Karur District on Dr. S. Kathirvel, RJD (AH), Karur inaugurated the programme. A total of 32 VASs and DDs(AH) participated. FARMERS ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FTC, Kancheepuram organized the TNLDA sponsored Farmers Orientation Programme on Feeding strategies for better reproductive efficiency in dairy cattle at Azhisoor village, Kancheepuram District on Thiru P. Balakrishna Reddy, Hon ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Government of Tamil Nadu participated in the valedictory function and felicitated the participant farmers. Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice Chancellor, TANUVAS presided over the function. Tmt. Maragatham Kumaravel, M.P, Kancheepuram and Thiru. Wallajabadh Ganesan, Ex. M.L.A., felicitated. A book on Feeding Strategies for Better Reproductive Efficiency in Dairy Cattle was released during the valedictory function. A total of 250 farmers participated and benefitted. Correspondingly, VUTRC, Vellore and Karur and FTC, Theni organized the programme on , and

5 respectively benefitting a total of 1,223 farmers. Thiru. S.A. Raman, I.A.S., District Collector, Vellore participated and inaugurated the programme organized at VUTRC, Vellore. RABBIT FARMERS LINKAGE MEETING A Rabbit farmers linkage meet was organized by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, MVC on A total of 27 rabbit farmers and rabbit meat traders participated in the meet. Dr. C. Balachandran, Dean, MVC presided over the meet and addressed the farmers. Dr. A.S. Rajendiran, Principal Scientist, SRRC, (ICAR CSWRI), Mannavanur, Kodaikanal participated and offered suggestions. TANUVAS inaugurated the second workshop and released the compendium. Dr. R. Srinivasan, Member Secretary, TNSCST participated in the valedictory function and delivered the valedictory address. Dr, N.K. Sudeep Kumar, Director of Extension Education, TANUVAS distributed certificates and inputs to the participants. A total of 105 farmers were benefitted. TRAINING PROGRAMME WORKSHOP ON AZOLLA The Centre for Animal Production Studies, TANUVAS conducted a workshop on Azolla scope for an alternative feed source at ILFC, Madhavaram on Dr. V. Ramesh Saravana Kumar, Director, CAPS, TANUVAS inaugurated the workshop. A total of 47 farmers were benefited. FARMERS WORKSHOP IAN, Kattupakkam organized Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) sponsored farmers workshop entitled Popularizing fodder preservation techniques to the farmers of Tamil Nadu for sustainable livestock production in two batches from to and from to Dr. V. Ramesh Saravana Kumar, Director, CAPS, VC&RI, Orathanadu organized a three-day training programme on Innovative techniques for preparation and presentation of museum specimen in educational institutions sponsored by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) from to Dr. K.N. Selvakumar, Dean, VC&RI, Orathanadu inaugurated the programme and released the training manual. A total of 15 Assistant Professors and 51 PG students from various colleges including VC&RI, Namakkal and Orathanadu participated. SELF-EMPLOYMENT COURSE The one month Self-Employment Course on Livestock and Native Chicken farming has been conducted at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, VC&RI, Tirunelveli. During the period from June 2017 to July 2017, a total of 37 candidates had successfully completed these courses. Dr. M. Thirunavukkarasu, Dean, VC&RI, Tirunelveli distributed certificates to the successful candidates. 5

6 ANIMAL HEALTH CAMP VUTRC, Vellore has conducted two animal health camps under the DST Scheme entitled Technology empowerment of small holding livestock producers of scheduled caste communities in Katpadi and Vellore blocks of Vellore District in Tamil Nadu in co-ordination with Department of Animal Husbandry, Vellore at Sirukanchi and Sembarayanallore on and , respectively. A total of 465 animals were treated and vaccinated. INFERTILITY CAMP The Directorate of Extension Education conducted an Infertility Camp under Farmers First Programme of ICAR at Thaneerkulam, Karayanmedu and Melkondayar villages of Tiruvallur District on A total of 134 animals were screened and animals with repeat breeding and anoestrum were treated with TANUVAS Progesterone Sponges and subsequently inseminated. FARMERS AWARENESS PROGRAMME demonstrated. A total of 40 sheep farmers of Tirunelveli division participated and benefited. INAUGURATON OF NABARD FUNDED SCHEME The inaugural function of NABARD funded scheme entitled Empowerment of rural women through capacity building and adoption of ovulation synchronization technique in dairy cows in Tiruvannamalai District was organized by VUTRC, Tiruvannamalai on Dr. N.K. Sudeep Kumar, Director of Extension Education, TANUVAS presided and Thiru. V. Sriram, District Development Manager, NABARD felicitated. A total of 45 farmers participated. Dr. C. Theophilus Anand Kumar, Associate Professor and Head, briefed about the project during the occasion. WORLD ZOONOSES DAY CELEBRATED Madras Veterinary College: An animal health camp was jointly organized by the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology and NSS unit of MVC at Bandikavanoor Thottikalai village of Thiruvallur district on Further, a drawing and elocution competition were conducted for school children on the theme of Zoonoses. A total of 37 children actively participated in the competitions and exhibited their talents. VC&RI, Tirunelveli has organized an awareness programme on Popularization of target selective anthelmintic technique among the sheep farmers in Tirunelveli district as a part of the NABARD funded project on Target selective anthelmintic technique was 6 VC&RI, Orathanadu: The Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology conducted collage and quiz competitions on the theme of Impact of Zoonoses on Dr. K.N. Selvakumar, Dean, VC&RI, Orathanadu distributed prizes and certificates to the winners of the competitions. TRPVB PRODUCTS SALE INITIATED TRPVB has developed several products viz. TANUVAS Surgical Scrub kit containing Chlorohexidine (250 ml), IPA (125 ml), Nano iodine (125 ml), Nano Heal (50 G), Nano Dermal Cream (50 G), Teat protect (250 ml and 500 ml) and Ketosis detection kit (5 tests). 7 Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS initiated the sale of these products through MVC Students Cooperative Stores on Dr. C. Balachandran, innovations, farm equipment and devices, TANUVAS products etc were showcased. About 1.50 lakh farmers visited the exhibition and 1,100 farmers registered in the TANUVAS stall. REFRESHER TRAINING ON OFFICE ADMINISTRATION AND ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES IN TANUVAS Dean, MVC received the first set of products in the presence of Dr. K. Kumanan, Director, CAHS, TANUVAS and Dr. G. Dhinakar Raj, Progrmme Director, TRPVB. AGRI INTEX 2017 EXHIBITION VUTRC, Coimbatore in coordination with KVK, Namakkal, ILFC, TANUVAS, TRPVB and VUTRCs, Erode and Tirupur participated in the Agri Intex 2017 Exhibition on behalf of TANUVAS held at Codissia Hall, Coimbatore from to Dr. S.
