3 What makes E-MOX PRO so effective E-MOX PRO s broad spectrum efficacy is the result of its unique triple active combination of active constituents of Moxidectin, Oxfendazole and Praziquantel. Each active belongs to a different chemical class with a different sensitivity to parasites, allowing them to work together for complete control. 1MOXIDECTIN Belonging to the milbemycin class, Moxidectin is a second generation macrocyclic lactone that has a specific mode of action of disrupting nerve function of susceptible parasites. This causes paralysis and eventually death in a range of immature and adult nematode species and stomach bots. Moxidectin s efficacy is quite unique to other active constituents. Moxidectin is fat soluble so it accumulates in fatty tissues and then releases into circulation over time. This gives Moxidectin a longer elimination half-life, allowing it to work longer to kill gastrointestinal worms. This results in a longer egg reappearance interval of 12 to 16 weeks following treatment 1, meaning fewer treatments are required to provide effective worm control. The availability of Moxidectin also gives it superior efficacy against internal parasites that reside in fatty tissues. Small strongyles can migrate into the intestinal mucosa (lining), where they can become arrested for a prolonged period of time. Moxidectin is the only anthelmintic active proven to target these encysted small strongyles in a single treatment dose 2. 2OXFENDAZOLE Oxfendazole is a benzimidazole, a different anthelmintic class that acts through the disruption of cell function causing parasite death. Oxfendazole maintains effective concentrations in the plasma and gut to target immature and adult roundworms in horses. 3PRAZIQUANTEL Praziquantel is a synthetic pyrazine cestocide. It specifically controls tapeworms by changing the permeability of their skin, causing death. Praziquantel is the most effective active constituent against all species of tapeworm.

4 The power of E-MOX PRO Clinical studies conducted have highlighted the powerful benefits of E-MOX PRO in providing a complete, long acting worming treatment. The results showed that E-MOX PRO had higher Moxidectin bioavailability compared to another Moxidectin registered product, Equest Plus Tape. E-MOX PRO had elevated Moxidectin plasma levels up to 21 days post-treatment, higher than the levels in horses treated with Equest. This supports previous research that Moxidectin in E-MOX PRO provides sustained, residual activity enabling it to have a longer egg reappearance period than other actives. Targets hidden small strongyles Another study 5 showed the high efficacy of E-MOX PRO against the hard-to-kill encysted small strongyles. This study showed that a single dose of E-MOX PRO was effective against both adult and immature stages, with 93% efficacy against encysted small strongyles, in comparison to as low as 61% efficacy in Equest treated horses. Small strongyles (cyathostomins, or commonly known as redworms) are the most common worm in horses in Australia 3. Due to their unique lifecycle, they can be more difficult to control. Small strongyles can encyst and arrest in the intestinal wall, protecting themselves so that they can build up over many months into very high numbers. Not only does this greatly limit the horse s ability to utilise nutrients 3, but greater harm is caused when there is a mass release of larvae into the gut, known as larval cyathostominosis. This migration can cause severe inflammation and result in clinical signs such as diarrhoea, colic and can be fatal in up to 50% of cases. 3 Encysted small strongyles in the intestinal mucosa

5 Integrated parasite control with E-MOX PRO For effective worm control, an integrated approach needs to be taken to manage the lifecycle of parasites both in the horse and their environment. It requires an effective treatment program and a focus on reducing pasture contamination. Recommended worming treatment program E-MOX PRO can be used all year round due to its broad spectrum efficacy. However the best time to use E-MOX PRO is in late autumn and early spring to specifically target encysted small strongyles. By using at least twice per year, E-MOX PRO will also form part of an ideal rotation program. E-MOX PRO s dual action against roundworms is useful in delaying the development of anthelmintic resistance and in controlling worms possibly resistant to one of the anthelmintic classes. Conducting regular faecal egg counts (FECs) is also a valuable way to identify the level of worm infection present to tailor a program according to these results, as well as individual horse management and seasonal conditions. Reducing pasture contamination Taking steps to break the lifecycle of worms will assist in reducing the spread of worms in the environment, such as: Removing manure in paddocks at regular intervals Reducing grazing density fewer horses means fewer worms and eggs Harrow paddocks to break up manure or leaving paddocks ungrazed in hot, dry weather Rotational grazing with sheep and cattle, to remove and clean up equine host-specific larvae.
