5 Isolation of MetallohhLactamasehProducing Acinetobacter lwoffii from Three Dogs and a Cat Eriko SHIMADA, Tadashi MIYAMOTO and Shingo HATOYA Miyamoto Animal Hospital, 2265h8 Kurokawa, Yamaguchi, 753h0851, Japan Metallohhlactamase (MBL)hproducing Acinetobacter lwoffii was isolated from two dogs with pyoderma, a dog with subcutaneous abscess, and a cat with cystitis admitted to an animal hospital between May and August, All MBLhproducing A. lwoffii isolates were resistant to ampicillin, piperacillin, amoxicillinhclavulanic acid, cefazolin, cefotiam, and imipenem; and were susceptible to minocycline and amikacin. Because MBLh producing bacteria has been recognized as a public health problem, veterinary staff at animal hospitals should be concerned about possible infections of dogs and cats with MBLhproducing bacteria, including Acinetobacter.
