9 ANIMALS - REPTILES THORNY DEVIL The original piece for the National Botanical Gardens was not painted but was negatively coloured in a buildup of semi-translucent gelcoat layers, which was then heavily reinforced with fibreglass whilst still in its silicone mould. This Technique bakes the colour deep into the laminate and is a superior finish to traditionally painted fibreglass sculptures. It is made from fibreglass and has an internal steel armature.
