In the presentation, students are required provide a description of the species, discuss its role(s) in society and its relationship to people. November 2017 Year Exercise on identifying animal welfare needs Written exercise Select an animal story / case incident (incl. images & videos) from a collection provided, describe the situation and use an appropriate framework to discuss how you think the welfare needs of this animal / animal species is impacted positively and negatively and how improvement can be made. January 2018 Year Test on applied animal anatomy & physiology and basic animal behaviour Test A combination of multiple choice and short questions to elicit students understanding of applied animal anatomy & physiology and basic animal behavior. April 2018 Year Exercise on reflection with a focus on an animal species care and animal care work Written exercise Students are required to choose an animal species (or an individual animal) encountered in a site visit / field trips, use a reflective framework to reflect on the experience, focusing on the animal s care and related work. July 2018 Year Exercise on identification of dog behaviours during exercising & socialisiation Written exercise Students will be presented with videos of dogs socialising with each other and with people. 8 6 Practical assessment on animal accommodation preparation Practical assessment Students will be presented with different scenarios which provide a context and details of the animals under care. Students are required to prepare suitable accommodation that caters to the needs of the animal concerned, including the following aspects: - safety (for handler & animal) - age (of the animal) - bedding - excretion - enrichment - food & water - cleaning & disinfection November 2018 Year Project on care planning Project report and oral presentation Students will be presented with different cases. Students are required to use a care model taught to develop a husbandry care plan report that assesses the abilities and needs of the animal concerned to provide appropriate care.
