1 Getting Started! This booklet is intended to help you get started using tbs.net. It will cover the following topics; Searching for Dogs, Entering a Dog, Contacting the Breed Coordinator, and Printing a Pedigree. It is not intended as a replacement for support, rather a quick intro to the program and how to use it. If you have questions about tbs.net that this booklet does not answer, please contact us at support@mbfs.com 1. Searching for Dogs One of the fantastic features of tbs.net is the database! By utilizing a shared database, we offer you the opportunity to access thousands of dogs of your breed. How do you find them? Can I search for just one dog? All dogs from a particular kennel? The key to searching in tbs.net is Dog Sleuth. If you are familiar with the PC based TBS, you have used Dog Sleuth, but you may not have used it as you will in tbs.net. Dog Sleuth is a little different in tbs.net than it is in TBS. This is because you are not just searching through a list of dogs that you have entered, you have to remember that you are searching through a huge database that contains dogs from hundreds of people and of many breeds. You want to use Dog Sleuth to narrow that data down to find what you are looking for without having to go through a hundred dogs, but you also need to make sure that you don't narrow it down too far so that you can't find what you are looking for. Here are some examples of what I would use if I were looking for specific categories of dogs... One thing to remember, this is a shared database and the first person who enters a dog "owns" the record. So even if a dog was in the data that you imported, if it was already in the database, it will not show up if you search "Records entered by me" To get started, you should leave the Record entered by...set to anyone. If you narrow this to enter by you, you may not find the dogs you are looking for. Searching for dog of a specific breed: If you want to find all of the dogs of one breed, you would select the breed in Dog Sleuth and leave everything else set to show all statuses, all owners, etc. You would click save and would get a list of dogs belonging to your breed. There will be several (maybe several hundred) pages. If it a bit time consuming to comb through all of the dogs, so you might want to narrow your search in your breed down a bit. If I am looking for a dog of my breed, that I know the name of (or at least a part of the name), I only set a few things in Dog Sleuth. Let's say I am looking for a friend's dog and I know the dog has her kennel name as the first part of its name. I would use Dog Sleuth to set the breed and then I would type her kennel name in Name begins with...i would leave everything else to show "All Statuses, All Owners...etc" and then I would click save. This will give you a list of all dogs of the specified breed that have names beginning with the specified kennel name. If the

2 kennel name contains an "s" or 's, I would leave these off. Many people strip these off of kennel names to make them uniform and to avoid duplicates. If you are not sure if the name begins with the kennel name, but you are sure that the kennel name appears in the name, type in kennel name in "Reg name contains" and leave the "begins with" blank. Searching for dogs owned by you: For listing only dogs owned by me, I leave the breed blank. I leave the "Name begins with" and "Name Contains" blank. I change these fields: Status All? Put in No...put in Still Own (all of your dogs need to have this status on them)...owned By Anyone? Put in No...then search for your name. Click the save button and it will to pull up dogs owned by you. I can set these few fields and pull up all of the dogs in my house. Searching for all dogs in a litter: Let's say that you are looking for all of the litter mates of a well known dog (this dog had to have been born after AKC started giving all littermates the same AKC number) You would leave the Status and everything set to show all...and in the Reg number starts with, you would fill in the first part of the dogs registration number. This will pull up all dogs that are in the database and have registration numbers that match the numbers you have put in. If there are littermates in the database, that do not have registration numbers on their record, this will not find them. It also will not find any puppies that the litter owner has not entered as dogs (i.e. are just listed in his litter information) Once you have started searching for dogs, you may find that some of the dogs that you own are already entered in the database. You may find that the record is Read Only and that you can not access your own dog s record or make changes to it. There are two types of dog records in tbs.net.. Read Only records and Full Access records. Read Only records are records that someone has already entered into the database. You can use these dogs to link to dogs in your pedigrees, you can not access these records to change them. To make a change to a Read Only record, you must contact the Breed Coordinator and request that they make the change. Full Access records are ones that you have entered. You have full access to the record and can make additions and changes to the record. 2. What is a Breed Coordinator? And how do I get in touch with them? - A Breed Coordinator is a volunteer from the particular breed, who is helping us out by ensuring that the data is correct. They are familiar with the breed and able to verify that information is correct or incorrect. They can change information that you find is incorrect in tbs.net, they can reassign ownership of records, and they can delete duplicate records. To contact your Breed Coordinator to report an error on a dog, click the BC link on the bottom of the record that is incorrect. In the comments section, tell them what needs to be corrected and if you are using a source for this information, where you found your information.

3 What you should be contacting the Breed Coordinator for: On Read Only Records: -Correcting misspelled names -Adding info that is not there (like color or reg number) -Reporting Duplicate record -Correcting incorrect information (like color, sex or reg number) -Re-assigning record if the dog is owned by you and the record is owned by the system or another user On Records that you have entered and have full access to: -Deleting duplicate entries -You can make changes to this record, you should not be asking the BC to correct your records If you have questions about using the program or problems with it, you need to contact if you use the BC link for support questions; it may take days to have your forwarded to the correct person. 3. Entering a Dog - Before you enter a dog, you want to first check to make sure that the dog is not already in the database...even if it is a dog that you own, you should check to make sure that it is not there before adding the dog. (If a dog of yours is in the database already, you can contact the breed coordinator so that they can reassign the dog to you, so that you can make changes to the dog yourself) To enter a dog in tbs.net: Determine that the dog is not already in tbs.net. To do this, click the Dog Sleuth button and then select the breed. Make sure that "Owned by anyone" is selected. In the Registered Name begins with box, enter part of the dog's registered name. Then click Submit. All of the dogs that match what you have typed will appear. If your dog is in this list, you can click on him to see information is in the database. You will also see the link to the breed coordinator on the record so that you can request that the record be reassigned to you. If your dog does not show up when you search on his name, you can add the record. Click the "Add a new record" line and an Individual dog page will come up. Start filling in the information on your dog. Fields with an * (asterisk) must be filled in, in order to save the record. To Add Sire or Dam to the dog's record: From the Dog Information Page Click on the Search button and the Search Page will open.

4 Check to see if the animal is already in the database by typing the beginning of his/her name in the "Name Starts With:" box. Click "Show" All animals whose names start with the letters that you entered will be listed. If the name you are looking for appears in this list, click on it and it will fill into the sire/dam field on the dog page. If the name you are looking for does not appear in this list, click on "Quick Add New Sire/Dam" Type in the Registered Name of the dog Select the breed You can fill in the call name and color here too, but these two fields are not required. You will now see a window saying that the animal has been added and the name will be listed. Click on the dog's name to add it to your dog's page as the sire/dam. When you are finished working on this page, be sure to click the save button to save the changes you have made. Once you have saved the dog's information, you will notice that there are now more buttons down the left side of the Individual Dog Page. These buttons allow you to add even more information on this dog. (Medical, Matings, Pictures, Transactions and more) There is one button that will allow you to add more of the dog's pedigree quickly...this is the PedFast button. Click on this button to pull up a 4 generation pedigree on the dog. You will "search" for each dog in the pedigree (just like you searched for the sire and dam above) and "quick add" the ones that are not there. When you search for an ancestor, if you find the dog and then put it onto PedFast, if you click the save button at the bottom of the screen...any dogs that are "behind" this dog will now show up in PedFast. You only need to search for and fill in the boxes that do not fill in. To print a pedigree on the dog that you just entered, you will click on the MegaPed button and set-up your printable pedigree. When you have selected what you want it to look like, click "Create PDF" or "Create Image" button and the pedigree will be created. 4. Printing a Pedigree - MegaPed.net will create your printable pedigrees. You will click on the MegaPed button from the dog's record that you want to print a pedigree of. You have several tabs along the top of the page. You will use these tabs to tell megaped.net what you want the pedigree to contain.

5 The Set-up Tab Use this area to tell MegaPed.net what layout you want to use (you can name your layouts to access them faster) and which pedigree format...both of these MUST be filled in to create a pedigree. To select the Pedigree Format, use the pull down menu to select the number of generations, the style of pedigree and the orientation (portrait or landscape) the basic Megaped.net has 9 layouts. The add-on Pedigree Power Packs give you additional layouts to choose from. Then put a check mark in front of the optional items to print on the pedigree. If the records contain the information that you are asking for and if the pedigree format supports them, you can add these items to the pedigree...put a check mark in front of all that you would like to print: Logo Watermark Animal Picture Ancestor Pictures Certifications The Fields Tab The Fields tab allows you to choose exactly what the pedigree will print. Some templates allow 3 lines per dog, while others may only allow 2 lines per dog. In all pedigrees, you will have more lines in the 1st and 2nd generation than in the 3rd or 4th or 5th. This is simply a matter of space. The program has to double the number of lines for each generation and 3 lines per animal simply will not fit as the number of generations increases. On this page, you will see: Line 1* Line 2 Line 3 followed by: Add to Line 1 Add to Line 2 Add to Line 3 followed by a table with these fields: Breed Breeder Call-name CERF Chip-number COI-% COI-number Color

6 Comment Date-of-Birth Date-of-Death DNA-code Gender Height Obtained-from OFA Owners Primary-Reg Stud-book Tag-Tattoo Titled-Name Weight MegaPed.net uses these fields to pull from to create your printable pedigree. To start, click on Titled-Name in the column on the right so that it is highlighted. Now click Add to Line 1 and the words [titled-name] will appear on line one. You just told MegaPed.net to print each dog in the pedigree's titled name on line one for that dog. Continue adding fields to the lines until you are happy with your selections. Please remember that MegaPed.net has a limited amount of space to put information into. You may only want the Titled name on line 1 and maybe the Primary Registration number and color or date of birth on line 2. If you put too much on a line, Megaped.net will either cut off the information or it will print on multiple pages. The Fonts & Colors Tab To change the color or font: Click on the Fonts & Colors tab. Next to Headline Font is a box, pull down the arrow at the end of it to choose the font. Then choose the Headline Style...you can choose from Bold, Italics, Underline, etc or just leave the boxes unchecked for no special characters. The Headline Color will have a box with the Headline color in it. The default is black. To change this, click the Change Color button to the right of the color box (you may have to scroll to the right to see this button) A Choose Color box will appear...choose the color that you want from this box and click select. Repeat this for your Kennel Info Certification line info Untitled Dogs Titled Dogs Pedigree Line color You have three more tabs to choose from in setting up your pedigree:

7 The Watermark Tab lets you select text or graphical Watermarks. This is where you will upload and fade your watermarks. You will access them through this tab to choose which one you want to use on each pedigree. The Logo Tab lets you upload and choose your logos. The Legends Tab allows you to change the wording in the Pedigree title and the Certification text. Once you have your pedigree set-up, you are ready to create and then print or save the pedigree. You have two choices of Pedigree Type: Create PDF and Create Image. These buttons are available from any of the tabs. Once you have set up your pedigree, you need only click one of these two buttons to create your printable pedigree. Create PDF - will create a pdf pedigree. To open this pedigree you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program) installed on your computer. If you are using a PC with Windows, you need version 4.0 or higher. If you are using a MAC, you need version 3.0 or higher. To create the pdf pedigree, click the Create PDF button. When the pedigree is created you will see a line that reads "Click here to view that PDF File" Click on this line, Adobe Acrobat Reader will open and will open the pedigree. You can print directly from Adobe Acrobat by clicking on the picture of the printer or save the pedigree to your computer and print it later by clicking on the picture of the disk. Adobe Acrobat Reader automatically sizes the pedigree to fit the correct paper size. Create Image - will create a jpg pedigree. It will open in your browser or in any program that will open picture files. To create the jpg pedigree, click the Create Image button. When the pedigree is created you will see a line that reads "Click here to view that JPG file" Click on this line to open the pedigree in your browser. You can print directly from your browser, but may want to preview the printed page first before doing this. You may need to adjust the margins to get the pedigree to print properly from your browser. You can also save the pedigree to your computer and then open it in Word or any program that opens jpg files. You can resize the pedigree here and then print from that program. When printing your pedigrees you are printing from the program that opened them and not tbs.net. 5. Using HELP in tbs.net This little guide is intended to help you get started. There are many more features to tbs.net that are not covered here. For answers to your questions you should first try to use HELP inside tbs.net. Every page has a green HELP button on the left side of the page. When you click it you will get HELP for that page.
