3 NOTICE BOARD CKC S ONLINE STORE IS NOW OPEN! The Canadian Kennel Club is delighted to open the digital doors of our very own online store. CKC s new merchandising program has received overwhelming support from CKC members throughout the planning and design phases. This support has been essential to creating a line of great products and CKC looks forward to seeing our members proudly showcasing their love for CKC and the Canadian dog fancy with high-quality CKC gear! REMINDER TO CONFORMATION JUDGES AND CLUBS RE: POLICY FOR NEW BREEDS MINIATURE AMERICAN SHEPHERD Effective July 1, 2018 the Miniature American Shepherd will be eligible to compete as a Listed Breed in Group 7 (Herding). In accordance with policy passed by the Board in March 2014, prior to receiving approval to judge this new breed, judges shall be required to write and successfully pass an open book test. The Open Book Test for the Miniature American Shepherd is now available on the CKC website at under the Events tab, then CKC Breed Standards, Conformation Open Book Tests. Please print the test, complete it, and mail, fax, or to Head Office, as designated below, by May 31, Please note, if you are an All Breed Judge then you must complete the test. If you are licensed for all breeds in Group 7 (but not an All Breed Judge), you must complete the test. If you are a permit judge for all breeds in Group 7 you must complete the test. If you are a judge on permit for half of Group 7, and you are licensed for the other half, then you must complete the test. If you are a permit judge for only half of Group 7, and you are not licensed for the other half, then you are not required to write the tests at this time. The Breed Standard is posted on the CKC website in the same place as the Open Book Test. It will be forwarded to judges in the appropriate format in due course. We appreciate your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the staff in the Event Planning Department in Shows and Trials. In the meantime, we will continue to approve Judging Panels for events after July 1st. If the Judging Panel that has been submitted to Head Office does not include this breed, we will communicate with the club to assign them to a judge on the judging panel. Congratulations to our Shows and Trials team for a job well done. CKC REMINDS JUDGES TO TAKE PRECAUTION AT CKC EVENTS RE: CANINE INFLUENZA With the recent spread of canine influenza across Asia, parts of the U.S. and most recently, two confirmed cases in Ontario, CKC advises all judges at CKC events ask exhibitors to open the dog s mouth for examination to ensure the health and safety of our dogs. We also recommend that Judges who choose to open a dog s mouth for examination sanitize their hands when possible. 8 CANADIAN KENNEL CLUB MISSION STATEMENT Who We Are The Canadian Kennel Club is a national, member-based, non-profit organization, incorporated under the Animal Pedigree Act of Canada. It provides registry services for all officially recognized breeds of purebred dogs and provides governance for all CKC approved shows, trials and events. Finally, the CKC is a communication organization informing all people interested in dogs. Mission The Canadian Kennel Club will service its membership and the community at large by giving support, understanding, help and guidance in all their canine-related endeavors. CKC will work so that members will be proud of their affiliation. The Club will recognize, promote, and publicize the actions of responsible breeders and owners. Vision The Canadian Kennel Club, with its members, will be a dynamic service organization, a recognized authority for purebred dogs, and an advocate for all dogs.
