1 WELSH CASTLES RELAY 2016 Thank you for volunteering your services to the Welsh Castles Relay this year. It is the expertise, commitment and enthusiasm of all our volunteers that ensures this event is successful and enjoyed by all those who participate. Note that Ellesmere Port (57) registered as a vets team but will now run as an open team. All teams have been told that we expect their runners and supporters to behave in a considerate and reasonable manner, and take all safety precautions very seriously. They must comply with the instructions of marshals and other officials at all times, as our instructions are mandatory, not optional. We have asked team managers to Ensure their marshals fully understand what they have to do, where they need to be and when they need to be there. Penalties apply this year to teams that do not fulfil their marshalling duties as instructed. Tell runners that the wearing of IPODs/MP3 players or other similar devices while competing are not permitted. Runners will be disqualified. This is a rule now introduced by British Athletics Rule 240 S5. Use shared transport only to reduce the number of vehicles used by runners and supporters. This is essential to avoid congestion and hazardous conditions. Runners safety on stage 8 Dinas Mawddwy to Foel: no feeding of runners is permitted but three water stations will be provided. We won t hesitate to apply a penalty if any runner endangers their own life, or indeed the lives of others, by ignoring the race rules or instructions from marshals. Please report any ignoring of marshals instructions or other inconsiderate or unruly behaviour to the Race Directors and/or Race Referee at the earliest opportunity. Changes: Please read through the accompanying notes and reference book for changes. As last year, Stage 1 will start at and the pre race briefing is held at The finish and presentations will be held on Coopers Field behind the Castle.

2 WELSH CASTLES RELAY 2016 Flying Marshals We will again have teams of flying marshals in support. The flying marshals are experienced with a good knowledge of the route and hazards. They will organise the marshalling at a number of locations so as to reduce the risk to runners. These spots are highlighted in the route description of the Castles Reference Book. Incidents If an incident is reported to you that should be recorded (e.g. a complaint from a member of the public, a mishap involving a runner, a vehicle or supporter) please direct them to the Race Directors in order to complete an Incident Form. Elephant & Castle In your pack you will find your meal voucher for the Elephant & Castle on Saturday evening. Please take it with you when you go to eat. It will be buffet style this year. Expenses Petrol expenses where applicable are reclaimable. Please complete the claim form and hand it with your receipts to Richie Bullen, Treasurer. Llandaff Rugby Club In your pack you will find a voucher for a drink at Llandaff Rugby Club after the Presentation Ceremony (from 1700 hours). So please join us after dropping off your equipment. There will also be an open invitation for all including the teams for drinks at Callaghans, opposite the Castle, from to (cash bar). Please make sure you ve delivered all kit back to LRC if you wish to join us later. Make sure you have.. a bib, Castles reference book and a Race T-shirt.
