It features the same internal circuitry as other back and side wired FCI receptacles, but works by tripping a relay unit supplied by the manufacturer rather than tripping the motor directly. 7 FCI RECEPTACLES SmartLock FCI Receptacles SmartLock Advanced FCI Receptacles protect against ground fault shock hazard from frayed wiring, damaged appliances and tools, and contact with dampness, where electrical contact might be made that would provide a path to ground through a human body.
