3 Since it was founded in 1873, the Kennel Club has had a core membership base that has worked towards its primary objective of promoting in every way the general improvement of dogs. Associates of the Kennel Club are expected to have contributed in a significant way, to at least one of the canine activities supported by the Club. There are several ways in which this may have been achieved. Prospective Associates may have shown sustained and continuous active participation either as a successful breeder or owner of dogs obtaining recognition in the Stud Book, or perhaps as a member or committee member of a society registered with the Kennel Club. Other possible means of demonstrating their involvement maybe as a Senior Member of the Young Kennel Club, as a successful exhibitor, competitor or judge at Shows, Trials, Agility or other competitive events, or any other way that shows their commitment to the world of dogs. Once elected, Associates may immediately take part in the election of Associates and Members to the Kennel Club Sub- Committees that deals with Shows, Working Trials, Obedience, and Heelwork to Music, Agility and Field Trials, either as a candidate or simply by voting. 4 How to become an Associate Once the application form is completed, it will be forwarded to the Sub-Committee relevant to their particular area of interest in canine affairs, for its views. Candidates names are then published in the Kennel Club Journal in order that any interested parties may consider and comment on the application. Final approval of the election of Associates then rests with the General Committee. However, Associates of more than five years standing, or if the candidate has been an Affiliate and an Associate for at least 2 years and 3 years respectively, or has been a Young Kennel Club Member at senior level for a continuous period of a t least 5 years may apply for Kennel Club Membership without the need for a proposer and seconder. Full Membership of the Kennel Club offers further constitutional privileges. Members automatically have the right to vote at General Meetings and for the election of General Committee Members, and they too receive a range of Kennel Club publications and a season ticket for the duration of Crufts, as well as four complimentary tickets for family use. Members of the Kennel Club have the opportunity to take advantage of a number of membership benefits, such as the use of the social facilities within the Kennel Club s Head Office in the heart of London, including the Club Room and restaurant. Those applying and those proposing applicants are requested to complete a form giving details of the candidates achievements in the canine world.
