BACKGROUND & NEEDS Impact Statement Five Accomplishments from 2017: 1,217 spay and neuter surgeries were performed resulting in fewer animals being born. This makes a direct impact on pet overpopulation and homelessness in our communities. More than 4,500 people utilized the services of our Preventive Care Clinic, which provides affordable vaccines, low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping and preventive medications. By providing these services to the public at a low cost we feel we are helping to keep animals healthy and in their homes. Over 250,000 people were reached via our website, social media, and other online presences, helping publicize the programs and services that fulfill our mission to "reduce the number of homeless animals and improve the quality of life." More than 8,000 people and animals were impacted by our programs and services. Over 26,000 pounds of pet food was distributed through our Pet Pantry program, helping pets belonging to families in need. 1,183 animals were placed into new homes or reunited with their owners, strengthening the human/animal bond. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Needs Statement 1. Our " Birth" Campaign educates the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets to help end animal homelessness. We offer low-cost spay/neuter surgery through our Preventive Health Care Clinic. Each spay/neuter surgery costs on average $ We offer these services to the public ranging from $80 for a feline neuter to $150 for a large canine spay, the difference of which we must cover through donations and grants. Spay Packs are also needed for our clinic. Every pack contains a complete supply of sterile equipment needed for spay surgeries. The cost of a feline spay pack is $ and canine spay pack is $ Last renovated in the 1990s, our kennels and guillotines are in desperate need of repair. The kennels need prepping and paint, the guillotines are old and many do not function well and the platforms of the cages need replacement. We also have 2 doors that need replacing as they are disintegrating with rust. Proper platform replacement for cages, guillotine repairs, and painting will cost at minimum $19, For the door frames with new doors we will need a total of $ The security of the animals that we care for is of utmost concern. Recent assessments of the security fence that encloses our property provides minimum defense. Most recent estimates quote a new fence at $7, & 4. Our Shelter Angel Program is a medical fund that exists to provide treatment for animals with special needs, who without treatment would not be healthy enough for adoption. Last year, 45 animals were assisted through this program. Your gift may be applied toward emergency or critical care, heartworm treatment, spay/neuter, or other expenses needed to ensure a pets health and adoptability. 5. Grooming is vital to the care of our animals and their preparation for adoption. Our current grooming station serves our animals well but the tub is in immediate need of replacement. The cost of a quality grooming tub is $3, Background Statement Founded in 1971, Suncoast Humane Society's mission is to reduce the number of homeless animals and improve the quality of life. Our service area covers over 450 square miles and includes Charlotte County, most of Sarasota County and a portion of Lee County (Boca Grande). As one of Florida's few "open admissions" animal shelters,we accept all animals brought to us from within our service area. We are committed to our policy of never turning an animal away regardless of health, temperament, size or breed. We are supported by individual donations, wills, bequests and grants from foundations. We receive no local, state or federal government aid nor are we funded by national humane societies, or other animal welfare organizations. The continuation of our programs and services depends solely upon community support. Statement from the Board Chair 2

Addressing the needs of animals and people in our communities is a top priority of the board, staff and volunteers of Suncoast Humane Society. We provide our programs and services for an area over 450 square miles. It is a constant challenge to raise the amount of funding needed to support the efforts of our non-profit organization. As a humane society, we operate an animal care center and preventive health care clinic. To supplement needed income, we also operate three thrift stores, providing donated furniture and household goods at bargain prices, in Englewood, Port Charlotte and Venice. We are a governance board setting policy and overseeing the health and welfare of our organization. Our dedicated executive director, management, staff, employees and volunteers do a wonderful job of assuring the effectiveness of our programs and services. They share numerous well-wishes and stories through our website and social media. Our executive director s monthly articles are featured in the Sun newspapers and in Boca Grande publications. I am proud to serve as a board member and as president. Statement from the CEO/Executive Director Suncoast Humane Society operates one of the few animal shelters in Florida that accepts all animals brought to them, regardless of size, breed, health or temperament. Many shelters have limited the type, as well as the number of animals they will accept, This can force some individuals to abandon or dump animals they can no longer care for. We feel the policies of Suncoast Humane Society do more to solve pet overpopulation and provide assists to people and animals in our community. We are constantly striving to achieve our mission: "to reduce the number of homeless animals and improve the quality of life. 4 PROGRAMS Pet Placement Program Description Suncoast Humane Society takes pride in connecting people with animals to form lifetime friendships. We are dedicated to placing animals into homes that are prepared for the joys of pet companionship. Budget $349, On-site Adoptions - Pets of all sizes, shapes, and types are available at our shelter and ready to be placed into permanent loving homes. Satellite Adoptions - We currently partner with four pet-related businesses throughout our service area, providing opportunities for people to adopt pets at more convenient locations. Rescues - We work cooperatively with qualified rescue groups to help place animals with special needs. Foster Care - Our volunteer foster parents temporarily provide sick, injured and under-aged animals with the special care and attention that is necessary to restore their health and well-being in preparation for adoption. Dogs About Town - Selected adoptable dogs and volunteers visit petfriendly organizations on a weekly basis looking for homes. Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Animal-Related, General/Other Animal Protection & Welfare Adults Families General/Unspecified We are very happy to share that adoptions and return to guardians increased more than 5% in 2014 over 2013 (calendar year). We'd also like to share a few letters from our adopters. This is just a few of hundreds of letters we receive each year: "We adopted Star our wonderful pit bull terrier from you at the end of December as a late Christmas for our daughter. Our daughter is still madly in love with Star and Star, well, she seams [sic] to love everybody she meets, including our cat." From P.H. "Thank you so much for our cat Ben Linus; he is so amazing. My son loves him so much. I was happy to have found an animal that is calming my 2 year old son down and something he loves to see and so excited about. Ben is a great fit for my family. I am thankful that I went to the pet store and found him. Couldn't be happier about the adoption." From K.C. Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Since our inception in 1971, we have found permanent homes for thousands of animals. Last year alone, we placed 1,276 animals into loving homes. We monitor the success of our program by the number of animals adopted into permanent homes or transferred to breed rescues for special adoption. 4

Program Success Examples In the past three years, we have increased our work with breed rescues and local animal rescue organizations by 90%, helping to find more homes for animals with special needs. In 2014, we helped more than 226 animals through this program, an increase of more than 75% over 2013, and a total of 1,276 dogs and cats were place into permanent, loving homes. We also helped 33 animals with medical needs through our Shelter Angel Medical Fund, who might otherwise have been considered unadoptable. They have all found homes. Preventive Health Care Clinic Description We offer low-cost spay and neuter, affordable vaccinations and preventive health care services. The purpose of our Clinic is to encourage everyone, regardless of income, to properly care for their pets. We work to fulfill our mission of, "reducing the number of homeless animals and improving the quality of life." Suncoast Humane Society's veterinary services are headed by DR. Kerstin del Campo. Suncoast Humane Society believes that spaying and neutering of companion animals is a necessary requirement for the effective control of the homeless animal population. It also is beneficial to animal health and behavior. Having your pet spayed or neutered is an essential component of responsible pet ownership. According to The Humane Society of the United States, more than 3 million cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters every year. Millions more homeless animals suffer cruel and painful deaths. Spay and neuter is the only permanent, 100 % effective method of birth control for dogs and cats. Budget $284, Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Animal-Related, General/Other Veterinary Services Poor,Economically Disadvantaged,Indigent Families General/Unspecified In 2014 we had 2,931 people and 3,835 animals visit our clinic for affordable vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery or preventive medication. Last year we performed 483 surgeries on Suncoast Humane Society animals and another 838 low-cost surgeries for the public. Since the inception of our Preventive Health Care Clinic in 2009, we have performed over 7,400 spay/neuter surgeries. Our success will be measured by fewer animal intakes, fewer mothers with litters admitted to our facility and ultimately fewer euthanasia numbers. Our program provides a critical service to the communities we serve by providing affordable vaccinations, low-cost spay/neuter surgery and preventive medications to the public who may otherwise not be able to afford these services. In 2014, we administered 6,631 vaccinations and sold 9,074 preventive medications. 5

Community Outreach Description Suncoast Humane Society has a robust Community Outreach program which touches thousands of people and animals each year. Some of our outreach programs are: Pet Therapy Teams, visiting schools, libraries, nursing homes and hospitals, Pet Pantry Program, providing temporary relief of pet food for people in need, Humane Education, speaking at schools and libraries on the importance of animals in our lives, Animal Cruelty Resource and Animal Disaster Resource. Budget $63, Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Animal-Related, General/Other Animal Protection & Welfare Adults Children and Youth (0-19 years) Families Last year we reached over 30,000 people through our Community Outreach programs and services. Our programs provide critical resources to the people and animals in the communities we serve. Our Pet Pantry Program is an essential component in allowing people to keep their pets in their homes where they belong. We provide temporary relief by offering pet food to these families while they get back on their feet. Our Pet Therapy teams provide the human-animal bond for adults and children who need it most. Through our Humane Education, Animal Cruelty Resource and Animal Disaster Resource programs we provide services in keeping with our mission statement that we exist to reduce the number of homeless animals and improve the quality of life. We monitor the success of this program by helping to raise awareness of animal issues, strengthen the human-animal bond and be a resource for those pet owners who are struggling. We have many stories of children who increased their reading skills by participating in our Doggie Tales program which allows children to read to our Pet Therapy dogs. The smiles we bring to nursing home and hospital residents when our Pet Therapy teams visit is a glowing example of our success. 6

Thrift Stores Description Our Thrift Stores generate much needed funding for Suncoast Humane Society. All proceeds raised by the sale of donated, quality items support the services, programs and the animals. The three stores, located in Englewood, Port Charlotte, and Venice, accept gently used household and other items for re-sale. You will find all sorts of unique treasures, one-of-a-kind knickknacks, furniture, books, art, small appliances and many other items at bargain prices. 8 Volunteer Opportunities Description Budget $55, We have many programs available for volunteers: Visitor Assistant Cat Cuddler Dog Walker Laundry Assistant Foster Parent Transporter Thrift Stores Fundraising Outreach and Education Pet Therapy Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Animal-Related, General/Other Animal-Related, General/Other Adults General/Unspecified We currently have 275 active volunteers either helping directly at the Animal Care Center or through some of our other programs such as foster care, pet therapy and fundraising events. The volunteers at our organization play an important role at our Animal Care Center. We want to encourage people with a love of animals to volunteer in one of our many programs. We could not do all that we do or reach as many people as we do without these dedicated individuals. Our volunteer program continues to grow and evolve. We have a very active group of volunteers who help us to continue our mission of reducing the number of homeless animals and improving the quality of life. Here are a few examples of why our volunteers are part of our organization: I volunteer in the Pet Therapy program because I have seen what these animals can do to make a difference in the life of so many people. For a moment they forget their pain and problems with the touch of an animal. I volunteer at Suncoast because I love animals and helping people. It is really exciting and fun to volunteer here and I also learn about how to approach animals. They also have good food. Because the dogs and cats need us almost as much we need them. Comments Program Comments by Organization Suncoast Humane Society operates an open admissions animal shelter accepting all animals brought to us by the public. animal will be turned away regardless of health, temperament or age. Operating under this philosophy we better serve our community's needs. 8

The animals entrusted to our care are provided humane care and treatment by a compassionate staff. After 30 years of use, the major components of our facility are steadily deteriorating. Architects and engineers, specializing in animal shelters, have advised us of the need for a new structure. We were very fortunate to have located and purchased eleven acres of land just blocks from our existing facility. The land was a bank foreclosure and was purchased for a fraction of its value. It is now estimated that the building of a new Suncoast Humane Society Animal Care Center could cost $6,000,000 - $8,000, The board, staff and volunteers are dedicated to having a successful capital campaign, plus assuring the continuing support of our current facility, programs, services and humane care of the animals. The future of Suncoast Humane Society lies just a few blocks away, and is very dependent on the generous support of our present and future donors. 12
