Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days: Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do s and don ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. 5

8 Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. This must be approved by the Management Meeting before entering ANY qualifier and not after the member has qualified at a show. Members must be aged 6-24 years (members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKC terminates on a members 25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Crufts they will be unable to compete in any YKC class. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout the competing year. In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions. YKC MEMBERS' HANDLING CLASSES Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into an YKC qualifying class. Dogs DO NOT NEED to be entered into a breed class to participate in an YKC Handling class at a championship or open show. Any dog entered in handling only classes is not eligible to be shown in a breed/avnsc/variety/stakes class at the show or compete for the Group, Best in Show or Best Puppy in Show. The FIRST placed handler only in each age group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosette is awarded to the first place winner. This is not a roll down competition. Handling qualifiers run from the 1st January to the 31st December for the following year s Crufts. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. Classes for handling are decided by the handler s age. The classes are divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday); years (12 years and up to, but not including 17th birthday); years (17 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). ADVISORY NOTICE NOT FOR COMPETITION Societies may at their discretion, accept Not for Competition entries. Societies may accept such entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day, such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed. Wins at this Show (in the required classes) qualify for 2018 In addition to the qualification for breeds where Challenge Certificates are on offer please note the following: For General and Group Championship Shows scheduling non-cc Breed classes for breeds normally allocated Challenge Certificates, the following will qualify for Crufts in addition to Best of Breed/Best Puppy in Breed and provided there are more than three breed classes or more than five classes for Stud Book Bank E breeds: First, Second and Third in Minor Puppy, Puppy, Junior, Post Graduate, Limit and Open. 8
