All other leads, including retractable leads, are strictly prohibited. A supervised kennel area will be available from 9 am to 8 pm, but participants must provide their own kennel (crate) and other dog care supplies. Only crated dogs will be allowed in the kennel area. 2

3 Collars other than a flat buckle-type are not allowed (choke, prong, electronic, head or gentle leaders) and must be removed prior to competing and during practice. Flat buckle-type collars do not have to be worn during competition. 7) State Fair Management/Staff will perform a roll call prior to the start of the competition session. 8) Competition Order The competition order will be determined randomly and posted in the staging/registration area prior to the start of each competition session. It is the handler s responsibility to know the team s competition order. Each team will compete once before the second jump (Dock Diving) or run (Weave Pole) will be conducted in the same rotation order. RULES SPECIFIC TO DOCK DIVING 1) Competition Team (consists of one dog and one handler): Dogs are allowed two jumps per competition with a limit of 8 jumps per day per team. a) During competition sessions, any team with more than one handler on the dock will be considered a team training on the dock. Team training on the dock is allowed; however, the team will not be eligible for placement in the respective competition session or the Final Jump Off. b) Only one dog will be allowed on the dock at a time. Pushing or pulling a dog up the stairs, on the dock or into the water is strictly prohibited. 2) Chase Object A chase object may be used to entice the dog to jump into the water. If used, the chase object must be throwable, floatable and retrievable. This chase object may not be edible, cannot sink, dissolve or be an animal (dead or alive). Examples of acceptable chase objects: bumper, ball, dead fowl trainer or frisbee. The handler is expected to keep the dog under control at all times while approaching the dock, on the dock and when chasing a thrown object. 3) Dock/Pool Dock: Forty (40) feet long by eight (8) feet wide with a turf surface. Pool: Forty (40) feet long by sixteen (16) feet wide. 4) Staging Area (space near the dock where teams line up for jumps) All teams in a competition session must stay in the staging area until completing their second jump. Teams waiting to jump must stay at least eight (8) feet away from the base of the dock steps while another dog is on the dock. 5) Jumping Dogs are allowed 90 seconds per jump. A jump refusal is considered one jump. 6) Practice Practice time, if available, would take place approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of a competition session. One (1) minute and/or one (1) jump will be allowed per team to complete a practice jump. Additional practice jumps may be allowed if time permits. Practicing/training a dog on the dock when the dock is closed is prohibited unless authorized by Wisconsin State Fair staff. 7) Competition Divisions A Competition session will include two jump divisions: a) Open Division: Dogs with jumps ranging from b) Pro Division: Dogs with jumps 19 or greater A team s placement in a division will be determined by the best jump in an individual competition session. a) Placement in a division will be made on a session by session basis. b) A team s division for the Daily Final Jump Off will be based on the team s longest jump of the day. 8) Individual Session: Scoring Procedure, Passing, and Resolving Ties Scoring is based on the distance the dog jumps from the end of the dock into the pool. The official jump distance will be measured from the lateral midpoint of the end of the dock to the point at which the base of the dog s tail (where the tail meets the body) breaks the water s surface. 3

4 In both jumps, the jump distances will be recorded. The longest of the two jump distances will be assigned as the team s distance score. The teams with the longest distance scores win. If a dog walks down the exit ramp and jumps into the pool from the ramp the score will be recorded as a refusal. If a dog jumps into the water while the handler is on the dock, but prior to the throwing of a chase object, the team may, at the judge s discretion, be allowed a re-jump. If a tie occurs for first, second or third place between two (2) or more teams in a competition session, each team s next longest jump distance will be used to break the tie. If a tie remains a one jump jump-off shall occur until the team with a longer jump is declared the winner. SESSION AWARDS (Per Competition Session) Division 1 st 2 nd 3 rd Open Rosette Rosette Rosette Pro Rosette Rosette Rosette Pet Food Experts will present 60 gift bags (value ~$15) to participants in the dock diving competition. A Bubble Board will be posted after each session to list the longest jump of the day for each team. After the last competition session, the final Bubble Board will be posted and the seven dogs with the longest jump in each of the divisions will advance to the Daily Final Jump Off. If multiple dogs have the same bubble score, each team s next longest jump will break the tie. If the next longest jump is also tied, both teams will qualify for the Daily Final Jump Off. It is the handler s responsibility to determine if their team has advanced to the Daily Final Jump Off. Each team will be allowed two jumps in the Daily Final Jump Off. There is no entry fee for the Final Jump Off. The three dogs with the longest jumps in each division will be the Daily Final Jump Off winners.
