3 BASENJI The Basenji is widely known as the first dog. These little guys can be traced all the way back to Ancient Egypt. They have many unique qualities that separate them from the pack. The Basenji is very independent and requires a lot of patience when training. This is not a dog to trust off leash. They are very quiet fellows that will yodel instead of bark. Basenjis require little grooming due to their short coat and to the fact that they clean themselves like cats! While Basenjis make great apartment dogs, they still require a lot of exercise to prevent boredom. These dogs may require more training and patience than other breeds, but owners will tell you that these pups make fantastic household additions. 4 MATERNAL LINE Through Avongara Kiri s mitochondrial DNA we can trace her mother s ancestry back to where dogs and people first became friends. HAPLOGROUP: A1c About 15,000 years ago in Central Asia, females from this lineage were some of the wolves domesticated as the original dogs. Since then, dogs from this lineage traveled through the Middle East to Africa, where they became some of the African village dogs and basenjis, which are a native African breed of dog. There are also still pockets of dogs with this lineage that remained in Asia or places along the route to Africa, such as India. This lineage has also been found in the Borzoi, a Russian dog breed. Dogs with two ancestral G alleles show "normal" activity. Dogs that have one or two copies of the derived A allele may have lower resting levels of ALT activity, known as "low normal". If your dog's result is "low normal" then when a blood chemistry panel is being interpreted the values that you and your veterinarian consider "normal" may need to be adjusted. Please note that neither a "normal" nor a "low normal" result for this predicts a disease state or increased risk for liver disease. Moreover, this mutation does not associate with increased levels of ALT: If your dog has high ALT levels, please consult your veterinarian.
