Mothers Day is May 12th Also at the Match Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Limited to 25 dogs CGC testing will run from 9:00am to 1:00pm Fee for CGC is $10.00 For pre-registration call Diane Stefonich at: CGC minimum age 6 months~~buckle collar and leash that is fabric or leather. 7 MARKERS in Dog. (Tips for from the Director(s) of ) What are they? What is the value? How to use them within your own training routine. 1-Dogs are very literal, learning is improved, quicker and sharper, if communication is clear, consistent, concise and devoid of extraneous emotion!!! 2-Regardless of the method used to teach a dog certain skills, communication is the single most important component, it enhances relationship, clarifies what task we are requesting the dog to perform and it indicates (if done appropriately) when we are pleased or displeased with the performance of the task requested. 3-Communication should be as SIMPLE as possible and as CLEAR as possible and REWARD/PUNISHMENT should be given out ONLY when the BEHAVIOR/TASK REQUESTED is marked in some manner by the HANDLER. To be clear, think of clear communication in two BOXES The CORRECT BEHAVIOR BOX and the INCORRECT BEHAVIOR BOX. BOX OF CORRECT BEHAVIOR-THE HAPPY BOX Correct Action you say: YES (or clicker) 100% of the time YES is followed by a reward (food, play, praise) Correct Action but not ready to reward (wish to This is a bridge word, letting the dog know the sustain behavior with encouragement) you say he/she is correct and that shortly a YES will be Good coming with its REWARD ***as a reminder, GOOD bridges the correct behavior, a YES should always be forthcoming to reinforce the correct behavior BOX OF INCORRECT BEHAVIOR-THE HOT BOX INCORRECT BEHAVIOR (when the dog has learned and understands the task!!!!) say NO 100% of the time NO is followed by either withdraw of a reward the dog expects or by a CORRECTION (for example leash to collar correction) ***IMPORTANT!!!! INCORRECT BEHAVIOR (when the dog is learning the task, or uncertain) say ahah As quickly as possible, MARK the correct behavior and REWARD IT!!!!!!! Follow up with the solution command for example Heel and show the animal the solution do NOT punish if the dog does not understand!!!!! As quickly as possible, MARK the correct behavior and REWARD IT!!!!!!! IMPORTANT: The word used does not matter, as long as it is the same word EVERY TIME!!!
