2 THOUGHTS BY SUE: 2 How can our summer fun be coming to a close? Last week-end we had a wonderful time being a part of the Danish Festival parade and residents enjoyed a visit from the Danish Festival band. Lots of memories were made and we have many great photos to prove it!! Now, we look forward to finalizing plans for the 7th annual Montcalm County Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, September 9th. We encourage family members and friends to come out and join us as we promote awareness and raise funds to help find a cure for this devastating disease that touches so many. Please let Tami or me know if you are able to join us on the 9th! The day after the WALK, Sunday, September 10th is Grandparents Day. Now that I am a grandparent I realize how special this day can be, and how much it means to spend time with my granddaughters. I love it when they bring me special pictures they've made or they call me on the phone just to tell me they love me!! Anything given to me by them, is a treasure, but, more than tangible gifts is the time I get to spend with them. Visits by Grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great, great grandchildren on Grandparents Day would be a wonderful gift from the heart to your Grandparent. We encourage you to stop in, bring your smiles, hugs, special treats, etc. I guarantee you will make their day! We will be celebrating National Assisted Living week on Thursday, September 14th. This year's theme is "Family is Forever". We are so fortunate to call so many people "family". Residents, families, friends, staff and volunteers, they ALL make up the wonderful group we call our Green Acres Family. They leave footprints on our hearts forever and add so much to our lives. Lastly, you have yet another opportunity to join together as we host our Family Fun Day on Saturday, September 23rd, from 4-6, pm. This year we are adding a petting zoo to our outdoor fun. "Kids" young and old always love to see the animals. Let's make September a month filled with memory making moments! Enjoy your last days of summer as we look forward to embarking on another Michigan autumn; always a reminder of our Creator at work. 5 Meet Loren Strothiede 5 Loren was born at the Belding Hospital in Belding, the son of Mildred and Loren Strothiede. Loren gained the nickname trouble by his siblings. Growing up Loren and his 8 siblings lived on a farm outside of Greenville until he was years old. Loren has many fond memories of riding his bike and traveling when he was younger. He and his father traveled to Whites Plains, New York to visit his Aunt and Uncle. While in New York, they went sight seeing to New York City and visited the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. He also traveled to Alaska with his Aunt to visit his cousin. Loren retired from Greenville Public Schools where he worked for 32 years as a custodian. Loren has become our resident greeter, opening the door for visitors and residents, while he is outside doing his word searches. Loren is a great addition to our Green Acres family! Meet Rosemary Scheid Rosemary otherwise known to friends and family as Rose or Rosie comes to us from Belding. Rosie was born in Sparta to Elsie and Peter Steffes. She was raised in the Peach Ridge area along with her 2 sisters and 2 brothers; growing up her dad ran a farm in the area. After graduating high school, Rosie became a nurses aide. She married John McCormick and together they had 2 boys and 2 girls (Randy, Ron, Lorinda and Brenda). Rosie retired in 1992 from Leppinks Grocery Store in Belding after 32 years of service. She loved to sew, knit and quilt, and whenever someone needed something sewn they would come to Rosie. When Rosie came to check out Green Acres she found that she already knew several residents and they greeted her with open arms. She is now often seen walking the halls or around the building getting exercise and fresh air with the Belding Brigade. We welcome Rosie to our Green Acres family! Birthday Party Fun!
