BEST OF BREED COMPETITION The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed or Variety competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record, or Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the day of the show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owners' records. Winners of the Veteran Dog and Veteran Bitch Classes may also compete in the Best of Breed Competition, provided that they are undefeated in any Regular Class at this show. OWNER-HANDLED BEST OF BREED This event qualifies for the AKC National Owner-Handled Series (NOHS). Exhibitor must check the Owner- Handled checkbox on the entry form to be eligible. See information on Page 8. NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES (Sunday only) Stud Dog Brood Bitch Brace Team Stud Dog Class - For Stud Dogs and at least two but no more than four of their Get. Stud Dog may be entered separately in one of the regular classes or if a Champion of Record in Best of Breed Competition, but MUST be entered in the Stud Dog Class. Stud Dog entry fee is $20.00; the Get MUST be entered in one of the regular classes. The Stud Dog must be shown in the ring with the Get. The class will be judged on the merits of the Get. Brood Bitch Class - The same as Stud Dog except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog, and Produce for Get. Brace Class - Two Great Danes which must have at least one common owner and to be presented by a maximum of two handlers. The dogs comprising a Brace MUST be named at the time of entry. Both dogs must be entered in another conformation class. Mark Brace Class in the space provided for Additional Classes. If more than one Brace is entered by the same owner, the dogs comprising EACH Brace must be so designated: Brace No. 1, Brace No. 2, etc. Entry Fee is $20.00 as a unit as an additional entry. Team Class - Four Great Danes which must have at least one common owner and to be presented by a maximum of four handlers. The dogs comprising the Team MUST be named at time of entry. The four dogs must be entered in another conformation class. Mark Team Class in the space provided for Additional Classes. If more than one Team is entered by the same owner, the dogs comprising EACH Team must be so designated: Team No. 1, Team No. 2, etc. Entry fee is $20.00 as a unit as an additional entry. For Great Danes only. Classes Offered are: NOVICE, OPEN, MASTER. BEST JUNIOR HANDLER to be selected from the winners of each Junior Showmanship class. Competition not required. Sweepstakes Sunday Only; Judge: Dr. Allison Paxton SWEEPSTAKES RULES This Sweepstakes is open to all Great Danes who are at least 6 months and under 18 months of age on the day of the show. Dogs entered in Sweepstakes must be entered in a Regular Class. Champions of Record are not eligible to compete in Sweepstakes. Sweepstakes will be judged prior to the Regular Classes. Indicate Sweepstakes and age division on the regular entry form under Additional Classes. Obedience and Rally Trial Classes Obedience Judges: Ms. Marina Pavlovsky & Mrs. Lora Cox Rally Judge: Ms. Sandra Svendsen The Obedience and Rally Trials are open to All Breeds and Mixed Breeds listed with the AKC Canine Partner program. Great Danes will have priority. TRANSFERS ARE ALLOWED in Obedience and Rally, provided the Show Secretary is notified in writing at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each trial. Dogs will not be separated by jump height in obedience classes. Please specify jump height for Rally Advanced and Excellent classes. Obedience & Rally judging will be held in the large fenced area adjacent to the motorhome parking (i.e., not where it was last year). Rally ring size: minimum 40' x 50'. BITCHES IN SEASON are not permitted to compete in Obedience or Rally classes. If a female is withdrawn from competition for coming into season and the Trial Secretary is notified no later than ½ hour prior to the start of the first class, then the entry fee for Obedience and/or Rally will be refunded. A processing fee of $10.00 per entry will be retained. A signed veterinarian s letter stating the bitch is in season must be provided as documentation with the request or within one week of the trial at the latest to receive a refund. For the dog who earns the highest combined score in the Advanced B and Excellent B class, both scores required to be qualifying. In the case of a tied score, the times from the two classes will be added together, with the lowest combined time to win. In the case of a tie in both combined score and combined time, the winner will be determined by a run-off at the conclusion of the Rally trial using the Excellent B course from earlier in the trial. A maximum of 5 minutes will be allowed to re-walk the course. Parade of Title Holders, Veterans & Rescue Dogs (Saturday Only) The non-competitive Parade is open to all Great Danes, six months & over, that are: Title Holders Great Danes which hold any title or certification champion, obedience, rally, agility, tracking, CGC, therapy, etc. Veterans Great Danes 6 years or older. Rescues Great Danes that were obtained from a rescue group. Each participant will receive a rosette imprinted with the dog s name. To enter, write Parade in the Additional Classes field on the AKC entry form and mail to the Show Secretary listed on entry form. Please share with us what makes you proud to parade your dog! AKC National Owner-Handled Series OFFERED ALL THREE SHOWS Determining Eligibility: * Exhibitors must declare their dog AKC National Owner-Handled Series eligible at the time of entry using the CHECK BOX on the entry form. * The handler must be an owner of record according to the AKC s records as of the date of the show. * Dogs declared eligible will be identified by an asterisk or other representative mark in the steward s book and in the show catalog. * Professional handlers, household members and current assistants to professional handlers may not exhibit. A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or assisting a professional handler at the show or any show during the cluster/weekend. * Dogs must be handled by an owner-handler eligible for AKC NOHS throughout the breed level competition for the regular show. This includes the class competition and subsequent competition in the breed ring. Additionally, dogs must be handled by an eligible owner-handler for all AKC NOHS competition. * The Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the eligible dogs that competed in the Best of Breed/Variety competition for the regular show. This includes Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, and the undefeated winners of the non-regular classes. This excludes all dogs defeated during class and winners competition for the regular show. Determining Owner-Handled Best of Breed * Breed judging for OH Best of Breed is conducted following Best of Breed judging in the ring. All dogs in BOB competition (including WD & WB) will stay in the ring after the judge makes their placements. The ring steward will ask all professional handlers, household members, and current assistants to a professional handler, and any exhibitor that did not indicate on their entry that they were eligible for NOHS to leave the ring. The judge will then select the Owner-Handled Best of Breed. A dog being cut or otherwise defeated in the BOB ring remains eligible to compete for OH Best of Breed. 5 Conformation Prizes The Great Dane Club of Northern California will offer prizes through the generosity of its members and friends, who shall be listed in the catalog. Prizes are offered at all three Specialty Shows. Except where stated otherwise the prizes are: a keepsake item adorned with a GDCNC logo, a crystal dish or a leather lead. The Club reserves the right to substitute any prize with another item of equal or greater value. This is a CONDENSED premium list. Additional prizes may be offered by GDCNC. If because of riots, civil disturbances or any other acts beyond the control of the management or the club, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry fees will be made. Neutered dogs and spayed bitches are allowed to compete in Veteran Classes at Independent Specialties which do not offer competition beyond Best of Breed. Neutered dogs and spayed bitches may compete in Stud Dog and Brood Bitch classes, respectively. Dogs need not be at the show until the scheduled time of judging. Dogs not needed for further judging will be excused. This is for the safety of the dogs exhibited, and it is understood that the club will not be responsible for loss or injury. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in the judging ring to the person exhibiting the dog, who will be considered the rightful recipient of the award. Any discrepancy should be reported to the Show Secretary before the completion of the show. No dogs will be allowed in the show area except those regularly entered in these events. Dispose of dog waste in buckets specifically for that purpose; do not use the garbage bins. * Dispose of garbage in containers placed on the show grounds. * Canopies and ex-pens will be allowed in specified areas. Ex-pens set up on lawn must be matted; mats must be removed at night to prevent damage to the lawn. * Do not allow your dog(s) to dig at the lawn area. * Absolutely no dogs or people are permitted in the dock diving area. CLEAN UP IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Violators may be reported to the Event Committee for disciplinary action. Have someone supervising your setup area at all times at the event site. DO NOT LEAVE DOGS IN CLOSED VEHICLES. If any dog is seen to be suffering from extreme temperatures or is confined without supervision, the authorities will be notified to handle the situation. 7 Notice To Exhibitors 1. Telephone, Conditional and Unsigned entries cannot be accepted. Entries not on Official AKC Entry Forms or photocopies of Entry Forms without Agreement and Rules on the reverse side of entry form are NOT ACCEPTABLE. Entries without fees are not acceptable. Fees must accompany entries. 2. Post dated checks and returned checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Club will add a collection fee of $25.00 to the amount of each returned check. Subsequent returned checks from the same exhibitor(s) may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. 3. PLEASE TYPEWRITE or NEATLY PRINT all entries. Use black or blue ink. Do not use pencil. 4. CHANGES, ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS to entry forms must be received IN WRITING prior to close of entries. Changes are not acceptable by telephone. or faxed changes are allowed. 5. ERRORS ON ENTRY FORMS Owners alone are responsible for the correctness of entries, or for entering the same dog twice, or for entering a dog in a class in which the dog is ineligible to compte, regardless of who makes such errors. No entry fee will be refunded in the event of such errors or cancellation of entries after the published closing date and time. Due to cost of processing, no refunds less than $4.00 will be made. 6. FIRST ENTRY OF EACH DOG IN CONFORMATION OR OBEDIENCE includes an AKC Recording Fee of $.50. In addition, each entry of a dog in single-entry recording classes includes $3.00 AKC Event Service Fee. These fees are required for each dog entered at any Licensed or Member Club Show, Obedience Trial or Tracking Test and are collected by the show-giving Club and paid to the American Kennel Club. If a dog is entered in more than one class in the show, these fees are collected on the first entry only. (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 11, Section 2). Each first rally entry of a dog (per trial) includes a $3.50 AKC Recording Fee and each additional rally entry includes $3.00 AKC fee. 7. ENTRY FEES WILL NOT BE REFUNDED in event a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by the Veterinarian or Judge, or barred from competition by action of the Event s Show Committee. If, because of riots, wars, civil disturbances, fire, Act of God, strikes, national emergencies, health emergencies, extreme weather conditions (including but not limited to extreme heat, floods, hurricanes, lightning, or earthquakes), or other acts beyond the control of the management, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry fees will be made. The well-being of dogs, exhibitors, and spectators is of paramount importance and, in the event it is necessary to cancel or stop the show before completion, no refund of entry fees will be made. 8. ACKNOWLEGEMENT OF ENTRY AND SCHEDULE OF JUDGING TIME will be sent to the address on the Official AKC Entry Form after the closing date, as soon as practicable. If an exhibitor has not received a copy of the Schedule within seven days of the show, please notify the Show Secretary. 9. DECLINATION OF ENTRIES: The Club may decline any entry for cause, and may refuse to receive, or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the Club or any official thereof. 10. PLEASE NOTE: Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for the show but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to Best of Breed or Variety competition, provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent or Show Secretary one half hour prior to the start of any regular conformation judging at the show. (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 11, Sec 6) 11. DOGS MAY ARRIVE any time prior to their scheduled time of judging. Dogs not required for further judging will be excused. 12. DOGS MUST BE READY FOR JUDGING. The Club and/or its Show Secretary will not be responsible for, and are not obligated to furnish any service for notifying exhibitors or their agents of breed or class judging. Owners or their agents alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging ring. Judges will not wait for any dog holding up a class. 13. NO DOGS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE SHOW AREA except those regularly entered in the show. There will be NO SPACE for unentered dogs at this show. All dogs shall be kept on leash or confined, except when being judged or in the exercising ring. 14. ALL AWARDS WILL BE MADE in the judging ring to the person exhibiting the dog and that person shall be considered the owner or the agent. All claims for trophies must be made in the judging ring before the completion of judging, and the Show Secretary should be advised at once of any discrepancy. The showgiving club and its officials disclaim any liability for any awards not claimed on the day of the show. 15. The Club will take every precaution for the safety of dogs exhibited, but it is understood that the Great Dane Club of Northern California, Inc. will not be responsible for loss. The welfare of the exhibitor s child is assumed to be the responsibility of the exhibitor. Please secure proper crates or means to confine dogs for the welfare of all concerned. 16. No gasoline or diesel generators are permitted inside any building or within 100 feet of any tent in which this dog show is conducted. 17.
