2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission Nashville Humane Association is committed to finding responsible homes, controlling pet overpopulation and promoting the humane treatment of animals. Background The Nashville Humane Association is one of the oldest service organizations in Nashville. The roots of NHA can be traced back to a society founded in 1887 to protect children from inhumane working conditions and draft horses from mistreatment. This non-profit was incorporated in 1946 to protect the well being of animals in Davidson County. Today, NHA continues to promote education and the humane treatment of animals through adoption, pet visitation programs, lost and found services, Safe Haven for pets in domestic violence situations, low cost or free pet spay/neuter services for qualified families or individuals. The primary source of funding is through individuals, foundations and corporations of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County. NHA is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Impact In 2018, we built a more robust transport program. The program allowed us to travel to rural shelters and assist with their intake, it allowed us to travel to East Tennessee and help with a puppy mill case, it allowed us to transport animals displaced by both Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Florence, it allowed us to transport at-risk animals in Puerto Rico to NHA. The transport program allows us to save lives, and you allow the transport program to exist.nha launched a NEW Foster Program in 2018 with nearly 600 dogs and cats benefitting from the program in the first year. This includes a Fospice Program to allow for NHA participated in two disaster relief efforts during 2018 assisting over 130 dogs and cats displaced during both Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Florence. We were able to save 95 at-risk animals in need of care with emergency medical fund. Needs General Animal Care and Enrichment - Nashville Humane Association cared for nearly 3500 animals in We pride ourselves on providing excellent care and enrichment for the animals while they are in our care at the shelter. From feeding, to enrichment, to treats, with a $25 gift you are helping provide daily care for a special shelter dog or cat. Volunteer Program - We are always in need of volunteers to assist with animal enrichment, administrative projects and event management. Foster Program - The NHA foster program is all encompassing and we make it as easy as possible for you to participate. We have foster needs for kittens and puppies, as well as adult cats and dogs. Our animals go into foster homes for a variety of reasons, including medical recovery, socialization, to gain weight, or just to get a break from the sometimes stressful shelter environment.emergency Medical Fund -With your generous gift of $500 you are able to save an at-risk pet's life by contributing to their surgical and/or medical care. Transport Program - With a generous gift of $125 you can sponsor an at-risk animal being transported to Nashville Humane Association to find a loving home. Other ways to donate, support, or volunteer There are a variety of ways you can contribute to help support the more than 4,020 animals in our care each year including a direct donation through our online donation page, donate your time as a volunteer, or make an in-kind donation from our Wish List. In 2018, Nashville Humane Association performed over 1700 spay and neuter surgeries; all at a reduced cost. We also completed 3334 adoptions, placing cats and dogs in loving, forever homes. NHA volunteers served 8000 hoursmost importantly, we were able to save 99% of animals in our care. A lot has changed over the years, but one thing remains unchanged we could not do it without you. Together we ve helped reduce the number of homeless pets in Nashville, middle Tennessee, and beyond Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama just to name a few other places of outreach. The strength of our community also allows us to work beyond our borders to help others in need. When Hurricane Florence struck in September of 2018 we had the resources and volunteers needed to rescue 89 homeless cats and dogs, treat their injuries and illnesses, and find them new homes! So thank you for your devotion. Your commitment and generosity are the lifeblood of our organization, and your efforts made 2018 so successful. On behalf of the pets you saves and the new beginnings you made possible, please accept our deepest thanks and appreciation. Because of you, homeless pets have a chance to grow, thrive, love and live. Laura Chavarria 3
