Exhibitors are entirely responsible for the security and safety of their own dogs. Once entries have been received by the Secretary, under no circumstances will entries and/or fees be returned USE OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AT SHOWS: The Kennel Club is becoming increasingly concerned at the amount of electrical equipment being used by exhibitors at shows, including hair dryers and hair straighteners and other grooming devices. Electrical equipment should not be brought to shows unless absolutely necessary. In rare instances where it might be required, it should be PAT tested and permission sought from the secretary of the show before it is used. The Kennel Club has also been informed of recent instances of exhibitors commandeering certain areas of a venue in order to have access to power points so as to use electrical grooming equipment. This is totally unacceptable and particularly unfair on the breeds whose allocated areas have been cramped because of this selfish behaviour. SECURITY AT SHOWS: In light of recent events the Kennel Club would like to issue a reminder to all Societies of the importance of security at dog shows. The Kennel Club understands that due to the nature of dog shows and the quantity of paraphernalia exhibitors bring it would be extremely difficult for show organisers to take on the issue of security alone, therefore we would reiterate the advice being given by the Police and security services, that everyone in the UK should remain vigilant and this applies to those organising and taking part in dog shows. The importance of exhibitors feeling that they and their dogs are safe when attending a show cannot be underestimated. We would therefore remind you of the importance of the need for show organisers and exhibitors to remain mindful of potential dangers and that all visitors generally need to be vigilant and alert. Furthermore the society should provide robust notification informing exhibitors of where to report to should they see anything suspicious or of concern, and of the evacuation procedures in place. 3

Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of the Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do s and don ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. 17. The use of pinch collars, electronic shock collars, or prong collars, is not permitted at any show licensed by the Kennel Club. This shall apply at the venue or within the precincts of the show. 18. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. 19. No modification will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the Board of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. 20. Best Veteran in Show Best Veteran will be declared in every breed. Best Veteran in breed winners will be eligible to compete for Best Veteran in Group. The winners of Best Veteran in Group will then be eligible to compete for Best Veteran in Show. 21. All dogs must be brought with a suitable chain and collar so that the dogs may be properly fastened on the benching. No dog shall be absent from its bench for the purpose of being exercised at any time for longer than 15 minutes, except that at Shows where more than one breed of dog is scheduled dogs may be absent from their benches and be present at the ringside when their breed is being judged. 10

13 22. Each exhibit must be benched on the numbered bench allocated to it in the Catalogue. No partitions should be removed from the benching. 23. Should any Judge be prevented from fulfilling his or her engagement the Committee reserves the right to appoint a substitute. Exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw their dogs from competition under such circumstances, but no entrance fee will be returned. 24. A special place will be provided for the cleaning and preparation of dogs, and no exhibitor will be permitted to clean or prepare dogs in any other place within the precincts of the Show. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. 25. No animal other than exhibits will be allowed within the precincts of the Show. 26. No acknowledgement of receipt of entries will be sent unless a stamped, addresed postcard is enclosed with the entries. Exhibitors' passes will be sent as soon as possible but if any exhibitor has not received his or her pass 5 days before the Show, the Secretary must be notified. 27. All Rules and Regulations or definitions or instructions in the nature of Rules and Regulations printed for convenience in other parts of this Schedule shall be deemed to form part of these Rules and Regulations. 28. Should any question arise which is not provided for in these Regulations, the decision of the Committee shall be final, subject to appeal to the Kennel Club. 29. The Committtee of Working Breeds Association of Wales can accept no responsibility for products advertised or sold by standholders at this Show and exhibitors are reminded that grooming products on sale may not meet the requirements of the Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for exhibition. 30. The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event). 31. A dog may be disqualified by the Board from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proved amongst other things to have been: a) registered or recorded as having been bred by the scheduled Judge, this shall not apply to a Judge appointed in an emergency; b) exhibited without payment of appropriate entry fees. 32. Every exhibitor shall ensure that whilst the dog is being exhibited, its handler shall display the correct ring number. Please clearly state the name and affix of the registered breeder(s). Entries will not be taken on the day of the show. Teams will be awarded points/prize money in the KC Breeders' Competition as follows: Points 1st; 30; 2nd 15; 3rd 10; 4th 5. Prize Money 1st Non ABS Prize Fund 20; ABS Prize Fund 25. Please note that Assured Breeders will be credited with a higher prize value. These points will be recorded in the Kennel Club Breeders Competition record book through the year. The minimum qualification for the Crufts final will be 50 points, with a maximum of 40 finalists including the winning teams from the European and World Dog Shows breeders competition. Our Dogs will collate the points and publish a leader board through the year. Please Note: Dogs which take part in the Breeders' Competition, but are not entered in the show, are required to have a completed entry form. Owners of these dogs must attend the Secretary s office to complete the entry form. 12

15 YKC MEMBERS' STAKES Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into a YKC qualifying stakes class. Dogs must be on the Kennel Club Breed register to compete in a YKC stakes competition. The YKC method for Crufts qualification is a points based system as follows: 1st Place = 30 points; 2nd Place = 15 points; 3rd Place = 10 points. If a member and dog combination accumulate 30 points or more, they will qualify for Crufts. Points will be allocated for the Dog and Handler pairing. All points are reset to 0 on 1st February each year. All pedigree dogs are eligible to take part provided the dog is registered on the Kennel Club Breed Register. The dog must be registered; a. Solely or jointly in the member s name or b. In the name of a close member of the family (i.e a group of people related by blood or marriage) and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKC member s address. No substitute handlers are permitted - the dog must be handled by the registered YKC member. Members are not permitted to allow another individual to show their dog at the qualifier on their behalf if they are not able to attend the class, unless agreed by the YKC Office prior to the show. Members must be aged 6-24 years (members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKC terminates on a members 25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Crufts they will be unable to compete in any YKC class. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout the competing year. In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions. Before competing, please view a full list of the YKC competition rules at: uk/ and follow the compete tab. ADVISORY NOTICE NOT FOR COMPETITION Societies may at their discretion, accept Not for Competition entries. Societies may accept such entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day, such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING BENCHING & IDENTIFICATION OF DOGS It is a Kennel Club requirement that exhibitors display the exhibit/bench number on their crate, cage or container at all times. This is particularly important when cages etc. are not on benches, and at unbenched shows. Each exhibitor is responsible for providing their own crate or cage identification and should note that the original exhibit/bench number card, as provided by the show society, must not be used for this purpose. It is important to be able to contact exhibitors and identify dogs where a dog may be in distress or where the crate might be blocking a gangway. At benched shows soft crates may only be put on benches if they are the appropriate size for both the dog and the bench, and the crate can be securely attached to the bench. Both of these points have been introduced with the safety of all in mind, but most importantly that of the dog, and to minimise potential incidents and injuries. The Kennel Club would also take this opportunity to remind exhibitors that Show Regulation F(1).17 requires that dogs should be present on their benches at all times except when being judged, prepared for exhibition or exercised.
