1 Muskogee County 4-H October October 2018 Climb With 4-H YIA October 17-19th. Registration is Closed but for the 35 signed up to attend, here are some reminders. Check in begins at 6pm on the 17th at Fin and Feather Youth in Action is Northeast District 4-H s fall leadership conference, held each year at Fin and Feather Resort near Gore. It is open to 4-H members who are in the 7th-12th grades. The conference begins at 7:00pm on Wednesday the 17th and concludes at 10:30am on Friday the 19th. This year, delegates will have the opportunity to sign up for several different tournaments (Volleyball, (6 man teams), Basketball (3 on 3), Clover Bowl, Horseshoes, Livestock Quiz Bowl and Skill-a-thons (livestock, rabbit/poultry, companion animal, dairy and FCS) and Cow Tongue Frisbee (County Teams ONLY 7 members). Teams will be formed once all delegates have had the opportunity to sign up. Tournaments will be held on Thursday afternoon. We have three members running for District Office. Jillian, Ethan, and Colby. If you see there stuff on Social Media, please like, share, friend, etc to help get their message out. Bring Change to support State Service Project and voting for 4-H Voice Contest. Bring personal Toiletry items Nice Shorts or jeans and a dressy or collared shirt are required. No T Shirts Bring a jacket. National 4-H week is all about promotion of this great organization that provides opportunities. What we need is more members to take advantage of all the opportunities that 4-H offers. 4-H Week Activities: 1. Wear your 4-H Shirts all week! 2. Talk to your friends. Invite them to an event. Show them why you enjoy your time in 4-H. 3. Work a booth at Tractor Supply Co during their fall Paper Clover Campaign to raise funds for 4-H. 4. Setup an informational booth at your school. 5. Promote 4-H on social media.

Muskogee County 4-H obviously has deep tradition and there are some activities that are dictated by State Events etc. But our leaders association actively discusses County 4-H budgets, events, contests, and camps to plan and update programs regularly. If you want to help Muskogee youth this is the place you need to be on the second Monday night of the month! Our goal for the adult volunteer meeting is one hour for some 4-H training and discussions. Most months we meet that goal making it a very worthwhile hour of your time. Leaders meeting occur August-November, Special training night in December, and back to regular meetings January-May. Please go ahead and program the meetings into your calendar. 3 Northeast District Rabbit and Poultry Shows. Do you want a low cost livestock show project? Showing doesn't get cheaper than a Rabbit or Poultry project. $100 can get you a long way toward an animal, feed, cage, and supplies with a show rabbit. Cherokee county 4-H is hosting four shows in October, November, and December with some good prizes. You have to be responsible for daily feeding, watering, and general care of the project but small animal take much less time each day than their large animal counterparts. So we have established that the small animal project is cheaper and easier than a large animal projct. If you are ready to get started, contact David at the Extension Office or on Facebook for help finding equipment and animals RABBITS Breeds *Rabbits will show in two categories: Meat and Show Rabbits. -Meat Rabbits will include: California, Palomino, New Zealand, Std. Rex, and any other large meat style bunnies. Rabbits in these breeds will show by breed and by Sex. If numbers surpass 20 bunnies in a breed we will break classes into Jr. and Sr. divisions. -Show Rabbits will include: Dutch, English Angora, Florida White, Fuzzy Lop, Harlequin, Holland Lop, Mini Lop, Jersey Woolies, Mini Rex, Netherland Dwarf, Tans, Lion Heads, and Polish. Rabbits in these breeds will show by breed and by Sex. Breeds that have more than 20 bunnies exhibited will be subdivided into Jr. and Sr. divisions. POULTRY Breeds -Standard Poultry Classes will be divided by: American, Asiatic, English, Mediterranean, Continental and all other large fowl breeds. Classes will be subdivided into cock and hen classes. If numbers exceed 20 in a category, classes will be divided into cock, cockerel, hen and pullet classes. -Bantam Poultry Classes will be divided by: Old English, Modern Game, Single Comb Clean Legged, Rose Comb Clean Legged, all other Comb Clean Legged and Feather Legged classes. 4 December Leaders Training December 10th, 5:30pm at the Extension Office Please RSVP by Dec 7th for Dinner. 4-H Volunteers are required to have 4 Hours of training each year to maintain their status as a certified 4-H Volunteer. We offer 2-3 each year as a part of the scheduled monthly meetings but this is a great opportunity to catch up. Let me know of any topics you want covered! Dinner will be provided. Winter Fun Trip, Dec 1st Register by Nov. 19th. $20 The Officer Team selected Skyzone as the activity this year. There are still details to work out with Skyzone but I wanted to get the date and cost out for you to get signed up. We will go in the afternoon on Saturday the 1st, Jump for a while then go get some Pizza on our way home. This is our annual recreational/ recruitment trip as a way to just go have fun with4-h Friends. Which means you need to invite your friends. We went to sky zone a few years back and had a great time. However, I did learn a few things that last time: 1. They are serious about the release that is available on their website. I will see if I can get a hard copy to have available at the office. 2. They aren t as flexible with numbers as some other places when booking. If you are planning to attend get your Money turned into the Extension Office asap before the Nov. 19th. Shooting Sports Volunteer and Parent Meeting. Oct 23th. 6pm. Extension Office Certified coaches and parents of members in archery, rifle, or shotgun disciplines are invited to attend. This meeting last year was excellent proof that in Muskogee County 4-H meetings do work. From our one meeting plans were started for a fall Air Rifle Workshop Series and a Spring Archery Workshop Series. Trainings are available in November for all disciplines. Join us to find out how to get started and we can have another productive year with 4-H Shooting Sports. Topics: Coach Recertification New Coaches Active Meetings Starting New Groups NRA and other Grant requests. Contests. Please join us for a conversation about the future of Shooting Sports in Muskogee County. Please bring ideas of resources, meeting locations, times, and most of all possible new volunteers to help within this program.

5 Muskogee County 4-H Dog Club. Oct. 30th 6:30pm Do you have a dog, do you want a dog, do you have access to a dog? Dog club may be for you. The 4-H Canine project is all about how well you can handle your dog and serve in the community. 4-H shows are not about the structure, color, or markings on your dog. Our shows are about how well your dog can sit, stay, heal, down or run through an agility course. Club meetings are about whether you bring your dog or not. Training your dogs around other dogs and smells gets them ready for the distractions during the shows. Other months you will be making items for the shelter, going on field trips, construction or painting projects for the show equipment. Can Food Drive October and November Haskell 4-H is working on a Can Food Drive in October and November before the Holidays. Bring a canned food item to your local club meeting, set out a collection box in your community, or Trick or Treat for Cans. If you get a truck load, organize with Adam to get it picked up. If you have a more manageable amount send it with your club representative to the County Teen Leaders meetings. Fostering Hope Fundraiser Oct. 20th, Downtown Muskogee Join Fostering Hope for Yoga, Goats, and Carnival Games in the Hunts Green space on Broadway. Four Goat Yoga Sessions are available from 10am-1pm for participants 13 years and older. A Carnival is available for everyone. More details and registration is available at Fosteringhopemuskogee.org Suggested Carnival Donation is $10, Yoga is $30, and T- Shirts are available.
