If you would like us to report on other matters of interest to you, just ask. Arbor Day. This year marks the 26 th consecutive celebration of Arbor Day for the City. Approximately 130 people attended (100 or so elementary students). Following a quick quiz provided to students and a proclamation being made, goody bags and plants were handed out to attendees. A success! May s Council Meeting. Please plan on arriving an hour early (6:00 PM) for May 8 th s Council Meeting in order to attend an open house and retirement party for John Gagan! SR-520 Update. Construction of the next phase is scheduled to begin late The project will build: A new West Approach Bridge to carry eastbound traffic from Montlake to the floating bridge; A new Montlake lid and interchange; New transit/hov ramps to/from the Montlake lid; and A new pedestrian and bicycle land bridge over SR-520. For more information, please click here. Animal Services Update. The City maintains an interlocal agreement with King County and 22 other local jurisdictions for the provision of animal services, the Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC). An annual report was recently provided by RASKC which displays some of the highlights of the program, particularly over the past year. Such points include a first-time-ever euthanasia rate of under 10% (8.3%), significantly decreased times for pets staying in shelters (-26% for dogs and -47% for cats), and a significant decrease in the number of animals being brought to shelters. 3 RASKC Line of Business OBJECTIVE Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) provides King County and contract City partners with sustainable, cost effective services that protect people and animals, while delivering humane shelter care. Annually maintain aggregate dog and cat euthanasia rate below 10%, throughout ILA period CY %, including owner requested euthanasia. Note that ordinance limit is 15%.
