May items foud i homes, garages, ad yards ca cause serious stormwater pollutio if they are washed ito the storm drais ad allowed to flow utreated ito Lake St. Clair. Everyoe ca prevet stormwater pollutio by takig simple steps, such as takig household cleaig or pesticide materials to a Household Hazardous Waste collectio evet. There will be a Hazardous ad E-Waste drop off day, May 18 9 am 2 pm at Pier Park. See iformatio o page 4 of this Bulleti for more details. The City ad the Clito River Watershed Coucil also remid residets to make sure to put all pet waste, ad household trash i the garbage. Compost yard waste at home or sed to your waste collector separate from trash. Remember, if you would t put it directly ito the lake, do ot put it i the storm drai. Helpful tips for keepig the watershed clea: Never dispose of pait or pait-related products ito the gutters or storm drais. This is illegal dumpig. Do ot blow, sweep, hose or rake leaves or other yard trimmigs ito the street, or storm drai. For oe time use items, oly buy what you eed, so storage or waste will ot be a problem. 4 Summer 2013 Programs Registratio Guidelies All Recreatio Programs require pre-registratio. Please register by the deadlie oted i each descriptio i order to prevet the program from beig cacelled. * Walk-i at the Park ad Recreatio Office is the most efficiet way to register. All Registratio Forms must be complete icludig birthdays ad residets sigature, registratios will ot be processed without complete iformatio. ** If you would like a Registratio Form mailed or ed to you please call Boat Wells are Available As of April 2013, the City of Grosse Poite Farms has a limited amout of boat wells available at Pier Park. Curretly there are both 30 ad 37 boat wells available for residets. There are o waitig lists for 30 ad 37 boat wells. This iformatio is subject to chage. The Pier Park maria icludes 333 moorig spaces for boats ragig from persoal watercraft floatig platforms to 55-foot moorig spaces. Shore power electrical service ad water are available at pedestals for moorig spaces 25 feet ad loger. Shared electrical service plugs ad water are available for boat wells uder 25 feet. Wi-Fi ad 24 hour security is available from May 1 through October 31. Refud Policy Programs will ot be prorated. No refuds will be made after the start date of each program. Requests must be made i writig ad submitted to the Parks ad Recreatio Office. Full refuds will be made for ay program that is caceled by the City. Note: The first day to register for all programs, except youth swim lessos, swim team ad sychroized swim team, is Tuesday, May 16 at 8:30 am A boat lift is available to lauch boats with trailers. The boat lift has restrictios ad physical limits as to what size of trailers ca be lauched. The maximum size trailer that ca be accommodated is 21. There are 120 kayak storage racks with a beach lauch area. Although, curretly there are waitig lists for all size kayak racks. Residets iterested i a boat well should either call the Parks ad Recreatio Office or drop i durig regular office hours for more iformatio. Residets must complete a Harbor Moorig Applicatio ad pay the required applicatio fee to be cosidered for a boat well at Pier Park. Harbor facilities are oly available to residets of Grosse Poite Farms. 7 12 l Youth Teis Lessos This summer, the Grosse Poite Farms Pier Park Teis classes will follow the USTA Te ad Uder Teis 3 Stage System. This progressio system is used atiowide as well as i Caada ad Europe ad it is the progressio that all the top academies use with their juiors. This system has bee desiged to make teis more fu, easier, safer ad more ecouragig for youger players. Each of our staff members have udergoe traiig i each of the 3 stages. For more iformatio o this system, please visit the USTA website for a full descriptio ad video tutorials of the process. Stage 1 This stage is coducted o a 36 court, usig red teis balls that are 15% larger. This stage is iteded to itroduce players to all of the proper strokes: forehad, backhad, volleys, overhead ad serves, ad also to itroduce the cocept of rallyig. Studets at this stage are expected to have a workig kowledge of all strokes ad have the ability to rally the ball over the et before movig o to Stage 2. Stage 2 Istructio is coducted o a 60 court, usig orage balls that have approximately 50% of the compressio of yellow balls. Havig mastered their strokes ad the ability to rally, studets o these courts will be cotiuig to work o proper techique, as well as learig how to play sigles ad doubles poits ad matches ad begi to lear basic strategy. Stage 3 Stage 3 teis is played o a full size court usig gree balls, with 75% of the compressio of yellow balls. Players at this stage should ow have the kowledge ad ability to play poits, cotrol where they hit the ball ad cosistetly make ad retur serves. Istructio focuses o cotiuig to improve techique, more advaced footwork ad more complex match play situatios. Begier Teis This program is desiged to teach older kids the basic strokes, footwork ad rally skills o a full size court, with yellow (regular) balls i a maer that is more suited to their age, height/weight ad coordiatio. Istructio begis with basic stroke work, quickly addig footwork ad rally skills ad culmiatig i poit play. Advaced Teis Advaced Juior Teis is for players who are already familiar with all the strokes, footwork ad strategy ecessary to play a match. Istructio i this class will work o cotiuig to polish all strokes ad footwork, ad itroduce more advaced sigles ad doubles strategies. Placemet ito the differet stages should be based o experiece ad age. However, there are other importat factors such as the height of the child, eye-had coordiatio ad movemet abilities. We ecourage parets to put their child i the class that most fits their child, but uderstad that sometimes the player s available times just do ot correlate to the proper class. I such situatios we ecourage attempted participatio, but ask that participats/parets uderstad that class curriculum caot be altered for just oe child.
