3 The Mystery of the Yeti By Spencer Underwood Late at night, in the icy cold mountains of the Himalayas, a fierce beast is stalking a small farm. Rustling can be heard in the thick brush of the woods just around the edge of the farm. Low, quiet moans can be heard from the trees, but it is only heard by the animals in the woods. Deer, birds, wolves, even the bears are taking shelter from this beast. The deer pokes his head out from behind his tree. WHACK! Just like that, the deer is gone. The next morning the farmer wakes up, eats his breakfast, and goes to hunt in the woods. He sees something in the distance, and grabs binoculars from his hunting bag. He peers through and eyes a gruesome slaughter. He walks closer. It smells terribly foul. He steps in a puddle of blood in the snow, next to a very old tree. There are five slash marks on the bark, sap leaks out from the gashes, deep into the tree. He moves closer to the body, but the stench starts to overwhelm him. This is as close as he ll get. He can see that the body is headless, with most of the meat eaten off of the body. The farmer doubles back to the tree. He sees five gigantic footprints, more than twice the size of his own! Strangely there are no footprints around the body of the deer. Whatever killed the deer must have eaten it at the tree, and thrown the headless carcass more than 60 feet! The farmer knows this was no wolf or bear, this was the Yeti! The man doesn t know what to do, but he has heard of an American research team who investigates beasts like the Yeti. Destination Truth, they have investigated this same beast before. The farmer believes there are more Yetis out there. He goes back to the house and gets his laptop. He goes on the Destination Truth website and finds their . The man speaks fluent English, so communicating with Destination Truth should not be difficult. He s them his name and address and tells them his problem. Now all he can do is sit and wait. The farmer goes outside for some fresh air. He takes a deep breath and slowly exhales. CRACK! A tree falls in the woods. The farmer sprints toward the tree. He puts his hands on his knees and tries to catch his breath, when he sees something out of the corner of his eyes. He turns around and sees the Yeti, running off with a whole wolf in one hand. He couldn t believe what he d seen. He thought he d gone crazy. Then he heard it roar. It was the loudest, scariest roar he d ever heard. There was a blood trail, but he was too scared to follow it. He stumbled back to his house and collapsed on the couch. He would never go back into those woods. When the farmer finally recovered from his shock he tried to describe what he d seen to himself. The farmer was a single man and he could not live on his own with a Yeti in the woods. It was huge, at least 7 feet tall with giant muscles and razor- sharp claws. It was covered head to toe with long white fur. And it had frosty blue eyes that seemed to have no pupils. The worst part was the face, it looked like an old man with a very long beard, but the face didn t have fur (except for the beard) it had ice blue skin, the same color of its eyes. It had huge fangs with blood all over its snowy white beard, dripping down from its chin and splattering on his furry chest.

4 The farmer turns on his laptop. He has an . It is from Josh Gates, the host of Destination Truth. The says that the DT team has just booked a flight and should be there tomorrow. The farmer sits in his house and waits for tomorrow to come. He has now become terrified of the outdoors, so he decides to go to bed. It is only late afternoon and he hasn t eaten anything since breakfast, but he has no appetite after that experience. He lies in bed, desperate for sleep, but he keeps hearing something in the woods. Every sound from outside makes him jump. When he closes his eyes he imagines the beastly Yeti peering down on him from the foot of the bed, its claws ready to slash his life away at any second. BANG! Something hits his bedroom window. Glass shards fly everywhere, one of which hitting the farmer in the arm. He jumps out of his bed like it s a trampoline and runs to the closet to get his best rifle. He aims out the window, the cross on his scope moving side to side, searching for the window breaking beast. He spends several minutes looking, but he sees nothing except the snow and the trees. He feels a sharp pain in his feet. He looks down at his bare feet and sees glass stuck everywhere and a trail of his own bloody footprints. A rock the size of a baseball sits next to his bed. The Yeti had thrown this rock. He knew it. It couldn t have been anything else. The Yeti was trying to harm him, and it is more than capable. He pours a bucket of water and mixes it with salt and alcohol to soak his feet in. It is very painful and makes the farmer want to scream, but when he pulls his feet out the glass had fallen out of his feet. He is lucky the glass didn t go very deep. He wraps his foot in bandages and limps out on the porch. The sun is up and Destination Truth should be here soon. He sits in his rocking chair and slowly dozes off. Sir, wake up Josh Gates says, shaking the farmers shoulder. Huh? the farmer says as his eyes pop open. I m Josh Gates and this is my team he points to a group of people setting up equipment at the edge of the woods. We re here to investigate your Yeti Thank God, I was attacked just a few hours ago. It threw a rock at my window and shattered it open. I ve seen it, too. It s a huge beast, maybe 7 feet tall. Covered in long white fur and has the most menacing growl babbles the farmer. Hang on, you ve actually seen it and been attacked? questions Josh. Yes, it s the scariest thing I ve ever seen. I haven t been back in the woods since I first saw it, and I m a big hunter. Bears, wolves, they never scare me, but this Yeti is different. It s more intelligent and it really doesn t like me says the farmer. We ll look as hard as we can, could you show me the window? asks Josh. Sure, but watch your step. The farmer leads Josh to the window.

5 Is this your blood? Josh asks noticing the bloody floor. Yes. I was in bed when I heard the window smash. I jumped up and grabbed my gun, and I was so scared I didn t even notice the glass until it was too late. When I looked out the window, nothing there! exclaims the farmer. My name s Luke Davis. I m from North Carolina, but I moved up here in the Himalayas because I have always been fascinated by the snowy mountains. I know I sound crazy wanting to live in the Himalayas, but it s just my life style. Josh Gates, host of Destination Truth. I m going to start the investigation now. The team sets up their equipment, including motion sensor trap cameras, night vision video cameras, and set up base camp in a small clearing in the woods. They will work in 2 teams, Team Josh, including Josh, and his teammates Allie, Kyle, and Richie. And Team Ryder includes co- investigator Ryder, and teammates David and Adam. The teams would split up and search both sides of the woods. They search for hours and hours until the sun rises, but no evidence was found. They found one cave but there was nothing in it, no hair, no bones, and no droppings. They report back to the farmer and tell him that no evidence turned up. That s impossible! I ve seen it! the farmer exclaims, outraged. We didn t find it and we have to go. Thank you for contacting us. If you see it again, shoot us an says Josh. The team gets in their Jeep, and drives off. The farmer sighs and collapses in his rocking chair. He hears a sound in the woods, branches breaking, and a loud roar. It was the Yeti! It s back! It starts running towards the farmer, faster than a deer. The farmer runs to get his gun. He s too late. The Yeti busts down the door and charges toward the farmer. A piercing scream can be heard miles away. RIP, SLASH, the Yeti claws and claws at the farmer. The Yeti grabs the farmer and throws his body more than 60 feet. The corpse crashes against the snow, headless, just like the deer.

He has had a long time interest in cryptozoology, the study and search for creatures that may or may not exist. His favorite TV show is Destination Truth on SYFY channel.
