2 super spotlights Q: What do you do at AHS? A: I m the Adoption Supervisor which means I help lead our team of Adoption Counselors. Together we help adopters find the right cat or dog that will fit in with their family best and give them tips on how to be perfect pet parents. Q: What s your favorite part of the job? A: Meeting all the wonderful animals in search of homes and providing them with love while they wait for their new forever families. Cats and dogs have so many different personalities, and it s so much fun to get to know each individual animal. Q: Why did you become an adoption counselor? A: I ve always loved pets and supporting my community. This job helps me combine both of those passions! Q: What s did you want to be when you were a kid? A: A veterinarian or an animal trainer. Looks like I ended up in the right place! Q: What s the most important skill for your job? A: Customer service skills and knowing a lot of information! Every day I help tons of people answering a variety of questions about the many programs our shelter offers. It s important that the public is happy with their interactions and leave with the answers they need. Q: What s your advice for kids that want to work at an animal shelter? A: Always be kind to both people and animals. Give back to the animal community and start volunteering as soon as you can! 2
3 Rescue Reading at AHS Did you know reading to rescue cats can help them get adopted? Not only is this activity soothing to our furry felines, but it is also a low-pressure activity for children to practice reading skills. It s a win-win! AHS hosts Rescue Reading at the shelter every day, where small groups or individuals in 1st-8th grade are invited to the shelter to read to cats in our colony rooms. This independent activity is a flexible way to gain service hours, practice literacy skills and meet a few furry friends along the way. Our Rescue Reading program is growing rapidly, and almost every week you can find children and families curled up with our kitties and a book at the shelter. Parents and kids love this activity, and we think you will too. To learn more visit our webpage. 3
4 meet tank Name: Tank Age: 1.5-years-old Breed: Domestic Shorthair Hero Power: Tank s heart is as big as it gets. Tank is the youngest of the squad but likely has the biggest heart. You can always count on him no matter what! Despite his age, Tank works day and night to make the world a better place by inspiring compassion and pushing friends and strangers to open their hearts and show a little love!
