2 We dedicate this book to Ms. Pyle because she s a good teacher, she lets us make stuff, she teaches us how to read, she reads us good books like Over in the Meadow or How They made the American Flag, and she lets us have recess and time to do whatever we want. Our class has 3 good teachers and we have many good friends. Ava, Vivian and Justen

How we made this book One day, Ms. Pyle said, Does anyone know what hibernation means? Some of us did. It means that animals sleep in the winter during the day or night.

So we made a brainstorm list of all the animals we thought might hibernate.

3 How we made this book One day, Ms. Pyle said, Does anyone know what hibernation means? Some of us did. It means that animals sleep in the winter during the day or night. Hibernating animals usually hide from the cold in a den, a burrow, or a hollow log for protection and shelter. So we made a brainstorm list of all the animals we thought might hibernate. We chose an animal to study because we liked the way they looked or because their babies were really cute. We figured out how to draw them. Then we drew them on colored construction paper. We cut them out and organized the pieces. We glued them down on blue paper and added wallpaper patterns that looked like where they would hibernate.

4 Black Widow When it gets cold, black widow spiders go underground where it is warmer. They have a red mark on their stomach. They have a web sprayer They poison people. If you want to kill them, they can t poison your shoe. Asher

5 Rabbit Some rabbits have a white tail. They hibernate under the ground. They have big ears and the inside of their ears are black. Annabelle

6 Black Bear Bears are fat. They have little ears. Their claws are long. They hibernate in a cave. Their feet are different in size. Jack

7 Bats Bats fly through the night. They eat mosquitos. Little brown bats hibernate in trees. Their wings are like stretched out skin. One bat, a vampire bat, eats blood. Most bats hibernate in caves. Archer

Skunks Skunks are nocturnal. They lift up their tail to spray and have very smelly spray that makes you want to take off your clothes and bury them in the ground.
