2 Deep in the woods of College Park there lived a bear named Truper. Truper often wondered wt it would be like to run around like Trudy He wanted to jump rope, play kickball and climb trees like all of the other bears He lived in a den on Oak Street with Mama Bear, Papa Bear and his sister Trudy He was born with only one foot paw! For years Truper s friends would try again and again to build him the perfect paw. but alas, something stood in Trupers way... On Oak Street there was a meadow. Truper and Trudy would come here everyday after school Cali the cat tried, but it was too small! Meowtch Oliver the Owl tried, but it was too narrow! Whooo would ve thought? Trudy would play kickball and jump rope while Truper would stay in the sde reading books or ctting with friends. Good one 2 3

You couldn t use a small paw for a cat or a narrow shell for a wolf or owl, tt would just not work +... It was rd finding a paw fit for Truper. Living deep in the woods a prosthetist was even rder to come by... Finally Practitioner Brown moved to College Park and Mama Bear gave him a call. Once he heard Truper s story, he insisted on seeing him right away I insist on seeing him right away Now, let us venture off so tt we may build you the perfect paw! whoa! Oh, wt a cute little paw! Excellent Pawmanship! The bear family couldn t wait to meet Practitioner Brown when finally.. Not all bears wear capes A few hours later... Right away... Which one of you bears goes by the name Truper...And now the moment you ve all been waiting for 4 5

4 If you would follow me, I would be more tn ppy to show you Truper s new leg! Wt do you think his leg is made of? oooh, I ll ask! Mr. Bear Prosthetist, wt is Truper s leg made of? A shell is wt protects the actual foot and makes it look more realistic Well, it s made with different materials such as Polymers, composites and titanium - and works just like your other paw I forgot the shell! It was in tt moment Practitioner Brown realized something very important... Wt s a shell? 1) They protect the prosthetic paw, keeping it clean and extending its life 2) They come in many different spes, sizes, and colors; making it look just like a real paw! 3) If you add a paw-tread to your paw, you ll be adding extra-armor to your paw, making it even more paw-erful! 5 Behold! looks like my other paw! I see you ve names for all of those other paws... Wt s Trupers paw called? Wt is it? Look at you! Having a paw named after you! You re such an inspiring cub! Back in my day paws were just called paws Cool! You really are a Truper Wow! Well, I built this paw years ago and I still ve yet to give it a name... But I think I ve an idea Wt is it? Beary great! Paw-Fect Truper! You re naming it after me?! Ha, yes. Truper it is then! Especially for being such a determined and inspirational cub. Just remember, this is going to be a huge step forward for you on your journey through life. We know it may be rd, but we ll all be with you every step of the way. 8 9

6 You ll be coming here once every other day for the next few weeks to learn how to walk Neat! You bet! For weeks Truper trained with Practitioner Brown. It wasn t an easy path, but with the proper guidance, Truper was walking around like he d been walking his whole life. Also since we re both fellow amputees, you ll be l earning all of the tips from a pro. WOW! You re just like me! He was finally able to jump rope, play kickball and climb trees- like all of the other cubs

7 Nice paw! I wish I d a few After years Truper was finally able to run around and play with all of his friends in the meadow on Oak Street. HappiLy, Truper was able to take his first step forward on his first BIG ADVENTURE! You can borrow mine Wow, you can actually run around pretty fast! almost as fast as me Once Truper learned the ups and downs of walking - he received praise and ecstatic cheers from all of his friends and family! excuse me? wt? 12 13
