1 They will never know freedom. Can they at leat know compaion? Winter Contruction of Wild Woodland Begin With the influx of new recue, we began contruction on our newet area to be called Wild Woodland. Thi expanion will be a home for any cat in need, from tiger to erval. Several acre were cleared lat fall and now the pole for the firt two free-roaming habitat are in and the bottom fencing i almot complete. We were not able to tart the building before the ground froze but a oon a it drie up in the pring, contruction will begin on thi a well a the perimeter fencing. The firt two encloure will be for the tiger waiting in our quarantine area, Zeu and Layla. Each will have over 5,000 quare feet to themelve for now. Eventually they will each have a tiger-ized encloure of 10,000 quare feet. Since thi new building will houe both large and mall cat, we ve deigned a partitioning Kita wall that will block the view from one ide of the building to the other. Otherwie the feature will be the ame a all of our previou building. When completed, it will provide u with eight free-roaming habitat for current patiently-waiting reident. We hope to complete four of the exterior habitat within the next year but a few of u here are overachiever and will trive for five! One of the mot enjoyable part of thi job i moving an animal into their new home. They are o curiou, niffing everything, jumping up on the perche or running around like crazy. The look on their face make all of the hard work worth it. The big cat taken in from the cloure of Wild Animal Orphanage in Texa will be the firt to move in to Wild Woodland. Pleae help u create thi wonderful home for them by donating today! We need your continued upport to keep thi project moving. Each vertical pole i $80; the perimeter fence i over 2,000 linear feet and will cot $20,000; the building will cot $70,000. The completed project i expected to cot $343,000. But we know we can accomplih Sebatian thi with your upport! Sabrina Show Her Stripe Sabrina, the Sumatran tiger mix, wa recued thi ummer from horrific condition in Texa after her owner died. Each day we ee her eye brighten, her growl lighten and her confidence build a he tart to trut her tripe. After pending time in quarantine, he wa moved into a larger encloure near Cougar Cove. She became quite upet when the big cat from Wild Animal Orphanage arrived, o we decided to move her to a quieter area by tiger Titan and Lilly. A chute wa contructed o he could walk to the new area at her own pace. She made the journey with no problem at all. Sabrina We are o proud of each tep he make. We know that it i a truggle for her each day to trut u he ha opened up o much. Sabrina now play with pumpkin and boxe, take food from the keeper tong and i out and about roaming her territory quite often. She till can be heitant and will roar if thing happen too quickly for her but what a different tiger he ha become ince her arrival! We know in the next year he will truly become the tiger he wa meant to be. PO Box 314 Sandtone MN WildcatSanctuary.org

2 Newet Arrival - Sebatian, the Bengal Kitten Sebatian owner contacted the local Humane Society to urrender him becaue of hi accident in the houe. Our Bengal program wa full but we were looking for a buddy for one of our hy reident, Diego. We thought Sebatian, an 8 month old kitten, would be perfect. Cedar Pet Clinic performed an intake exam and diagnoed him with Giardia and Trichamona Foetu, both gatrointetinal paraite which were cauing hi poor litter box habit. He i being treated and doing wonderfully at the Sanctuary. He a very ocial boy that love to jump, cuddle and be the center of attention. Save the Date! March 26, pm Duluth, MN From the Keeper... You made 2010 a ucce! It wa the buiet year on record for u here at The Wildcat Sanctuary, including a record number of big cat recue. With your help, we were able to build the final three new free-roaming habitat for our reident cougar, thu completing our Cougar Cove area. Other major accomplihment included an indoor quarantine area for ick and recovering animal; hiring a Program Coordinator and a Part-Time Keeper; adding a eventh bungalow; breaking ground for our Wild Woodland area and o much more than we can fit into thi newletter. The bigget new i, of coure, all the big cat. In one year TWS took in 7 big cat, a feat we never thought poible. But with all of you, our upporter, right there behind u, we did it. With o many new reident we had to think fat, where are they all going to live? With a little huffling and merging of reident we were able to fit them all in. Of coure, larger free-roaming habitat are in our plan; we are even building in the now to complete them a oon a poible. In the midt of the big cat hubbub, we completed Cougar Cove. With uch large habitat we were able to merge five cougar together. Donoma and Andre are finally living with the Wyoming cub Noah, Carlo and Langley. It wa definitely the happiet merge we have ever een - they are ineparable now. I would like to take thi moment to remember the live lot thi year: Japer, Milo, Cheyenne, Amo, Jamine, Kajeeka, Lakota and Tavo, you all touched our live and made u better for it. Thank you for haring your time with u even if it wa only briefly. And thank you, our loyal upporter, for allowing u to have uch a buy year! 5 Meet Some of Our Small Cat Ciega i a marbled Bengal cat that wa urrendered after her owner aid he wan t uing the litter box, the mot common reaon for Bengal cat urrender. Upon arrival, it wa clear that Ciega alo had a handicap. She wa born with underdeveloped eye and completely blind. Some might think thi a very difficult handicap for a cat, but not in Ciega cae. She a very determined little girl. She climb, jump and play with feather toy, jut like the other cat. She can even tell when you have your back turned, he ll wat you to give her more attention. Ciega i a very reilient girl, and in pite of her diability, i a very fun loving cat. Mark i an F1 Bengal hybrid. Thi mean he i the firt generation breeding of a dometic cat with an Aian leopard cat. You can tell he an F1 becaue of hi large eye, mall head and coat pattern, which are more characteritic of an Aian leopard cat. Mark wa privately owned for ten year but urrendered when hi owner decided to have a family. They felt Mark would not make a good pet for mall children. F1 Bengal do not make good pet and unfortunately it i the animal that uffer when they are purchaed. Lucky for Mark, TWS wa here for him. He now live with three dometic Bengal cat, a Geoffrey cat and another F1 Bengal. Mark love any new cent. Give him a paper bag with ome tinky perfume and he i at hi peak rolling and drooling. We are happy to give Mark a home but we do hope omeday people will realize that Bengal hould not be bred for profit. Abby, a jungle cat, wa taken in by a veterinarian. Thi vet oon realized that Abby wa no ordinary cat; he wa a wild cat. Jungle cat are native to Aia, the Middle Eat and India. They have a wide range of habitat from marh and wampland to tropical deciduou and evergreen foret. They hunt motly rodent, mall reptile and bird. While jungle cat are not a popular of a pet a the Bengal, there are till breeder out there. Abby how off her wild ide when playing with the feather toy. She i lightning fat, and if he win, he won t let go for anything. When not chaing the feather toy, Abby love to lounge in her fire-hoe hammock and hunt for any unupecting field mice. He arrived from Texa blind and deaf. We oon noticed he would occaionally circle - a poible ign of a neurological problem. He wa a happy cat that loved hi encloure mate, Salem. He liked being outdoor and taking nap. Then he began to circle more frequently and wa very dioriented. We tried a few treatment and upplement but nothing eemed to help. It wan t fair for Lakota to live in a body with a brain that no longer worked the way it hould, o we made the deciion to help him pa on to a place where he could be trong. Tavo, uch a beautiful lione, had one of the greatet feline peronalitie TWS ha ever een. It i becaue of her love for life that her paing wa o traumatic for the taff, vet and all of thoe whom had the fortune of meeting her. Tavo wa payed 8 day prior to her paing. She wa recovering well until taff dicovered that he had opened a mall ection of her uture and damaged a portion of her intetine. The taff and vet immediately tended to Tavo, performing urgery and providing intenive care but unfortunately it wa not enough. We will alway remember her running acro her encloure to greet u a fat a he could, playing with her roommate Kita and making her funny noie. Remembering her joyful peronality will help our tear low and our heart grow tronger.
