4 Teaching Procedures Period I Divide the students into 5-6 groups. (5 mins) Everyone in the group should be charged with one task.(worksheet 1) Warm-up: (10 mins) List the common phrases which contain animals Use worksheet 2 to let students guess the meanings of these phrases.

5 Activity (25 mins) Teaching Procedures Give the students a story Belling the Cat Ask the students to guess the ending of the story. Ask the students to answer the questions on worksheet 3 Ask the students to rewrite the story(worksheet 4 is an example) and give another ending. Assign worksheet 5 and worksheet 6 as the homework today. Every group should present their homework in the next class. (5 mins)

6 Teaching Procedures Period II Presentation (15 mins) Give the students the second story The Ant and the Grasshopper and read aloud together. (5 mins) Cloze test and comprehension test (worksheet 7) (10mins) Give each group one fable and prepare for the Reader Theater. (15 mins)

7 Teaching Procedures Period III The presentation of RT. (25 mins) Group discussion: (worksheet 8) (10 mins) What is the main character in the fables? What is the special structure in the fables? What kind of characteristics of different animals in the fables?

13 Belling the Cat Once upon a time, the mice held a meeting. They wanted to figure out what to do about the cat because they were very afraid of him. Several mice spoke, and tried to suggest some good tips. But none of them seemed to be good enough. Then a young mouse said he had a good plan.

14 Belling the Cat The cat is very sneaky. If we tie a bell around the cat s neck, we can hear the bell and run away before the cat comes. Every mouse agreed it was a wonderful idea. But then an old mouse stood up slowly and said, The idea sounds great. But the problem is, Who will hang the bell on the cat?

They are much more delicious than you.

22 The Ant and the Grasshopper If you had listened to my advice in the summer you would not now be in need, said Ant. I m afraid you will have to go to bed without supper. Then he closed the door.
