Behavioral Differences Between Indoor and Indoor-Otdoor Felines Elizabeth Terilli
Feline Development 37 million felines in American hoseholds (73 million in America) (ASPCA 2015) 50-60% are indoor Socialization begins at early stages in life - two-seven weeks (Beaver, 2015) Anxiety develops from months (Beaver, 2015) Solitary hnters and territorial animals om/ blog/t he- stats-cat/a- look- at- pet- owners hip-nmbers- with -the-stats -cat
Adoption and Ethanasia 7.6 million sheltered cats yearly, 37% adopted (ASPCA, 2015) 1.4 million felines ethanized yearly (ASPCA, 2015) Adoption isses leading to ethanasia, relinqishment (Jongman, 2007) Zw-EOB8/mtime: /sites/defalt/files/Eth_species.PNG
Addressing Feline Behavioral Problems Gentling a type of relaxed petting (Gorkow, 2014) Adopting cat at a yong age (Stella, 2014) Drg therapy sed to decrease elimination/rination (Beaver, 2004) Parameters (sch as bondaries) for cats can be beneficial in a mlti-animal environment (Heldenberger, 1997) Daily play with felines (Arhent, 2013)
Hman-Feline Interactions The more daily play there is, the more commnication there will be (De Gracca, et al., 2014) Commitment and loyalty can inflence the level of interaction (Frank, 2015) Stress can come from lack of environmental management, mistrst, and miscommnication (Wedl, 2011)
Indoor Verss Indoor-Otdoor Felines Indoor-otdoor have a shorter life span Indoor felines exhibit more attachment behaviors (Şerbănoi, 2006) Indoor-otdoor felines showed higher play and aggressive behaviors (Şerbănoi, 2006) Şerbănoi, Carmena. "COMPARATIVE STUDY REGARDING SOME BEHAVIOR ASPECTS OF DOMESTIC FELINES RAISED INSIDE WITH AND WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF GOING OUTSIDE."ResearchGate. ResearchGate, Feb Web. 14 Dec
Research Qestion What are the behavioral differences of an indoor feline verss an indoor-otdoor feline?
Goals Helps to solve social and commnication problems between owners and felines Decrease the risk of stress and separation anxiety
Hypotheses H 0 : There will be no differences in how the indoor or indoorotdoor feline interacts with their owner. H 1 : If the indoor-otdoor feline is more cognitively aware of the otdoors, then they will interact less with their owner. H 2 : If the indoor feline is less cognitively aware of the otdoors, then they will be more interactive with their owners.
