We have had lower costs for gas and electricity use over the last 18 months because, even though rates have increased a bunch, our utilization has remained low. That has been helped by mild weather during that period. However, we are now in the hot and humid period of the year the corn s gotta grow! Please be aware of your home thermostat setting and use of lights at home and in Mayflower common spaces. Every little bit helps. Computers, Balance, Swimming Now, Watch for Senior Driving Training. Luau.40 Years of Them. Our Food Service staff did us proud again last week as they presented two nights of outstanding foods and Hawaiian-themed décor in the Buckley Dining Room. Even the feral ( wild ) pig smoked and slow-roasted was tender and tasty. I had seconds on the mango chicken and coconut shrimp. Aren t we fortunate?! It is a great way to meet-and-greet and enjoy an extravagant, but inexpensive, night out, right here on campus. What s Next? Watch for Information About Mayflower s Own State Fair. 3 We celebrate the life of Ray Obermiller who passed away Saturday, July 13 He was 84 years old We celebrate the life of Kay Schallau Walker who passed away Tuesday, July 16 She was 78 years old Open House for New Infusion and Chemotherapy Suite Grinnell Regional Medical Center welcomes the public to view the new chemotherapy and infusion suite, which opened at the end of June. GRMC will host the open house on Tuesday, July 30, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Guests may tour the GRMC Auxiliary Chemotherapy and Infusion Suite, located on the first floor of GRMC near the lab. The new space houses six chemotherapy stations, which doubles the number of patients who may receive treatment, compared to the old chemotherapy room. 4 CARFIT Helping Mature Drivers Find Their Safest Fit Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. - Noon Main Street Parking Lot Carfit was designed by the American Society on Aging in collaboration with the AARP, American Occupational Therapy Association, and AAA. Program events are designed to provide a quick but comprehensive check of how the fit of your vehicle affects your driving and adjust your vehicle to your changing needs. A trained professional will ask you simple questions and complete a 12-point CarFit checklist. The entire process takes about 20 minutes, and you leave with recommended car adjustments and adaptations, a list of resources in your area, a goody bag of gifts, and greater peace of mind. THERE ARE NO TESTS AND DRIVERS CANNOT PASS/FAIL! Two lanes of cars will move through the 3 stations at the same time and you may sign up for either lane -- thus, there are two sign-up sheets with time slots.
