SUCCESS IS IN THE BAG NEW EPOL & MOLATEK PROUDLY TOGETHER LAYER FEEDING
RATION BROCHURE EPOL = THE PERFECT BALANCE Epol has specialised ranges of feed for the different needs of layer farmers. The requirements of farmers vary according to the levels of production and different climatic conditions. Our focus is on formulating feed for maximising on-farm profits. In order to maximise the cost effectiveness of our rations, we have developed the Ideal Protein Profile with the correct ratio to energy. The optimum egg output at least cost, it s the perfect balance. KEY FEEDING TIPS Feed small amounts of feed on paper for the first 2 to 3 days if floor rearing is being practised Gradually remove the paper as the birds become used to the feeders Phase feeding is recommended during laying to reduce feed costs Layer feeds should be fed ad lib from 18 weeks of age or at transfer to laying houses before first eggs are laid Provide ample fresh and cool water at all times PRODUCT OUR FOCUS Optimal nutritionally balanced feed Correct body development for all phases Target body weight for age Obtain uniformity for age Appropriate feather growth Maximise efficiency of the hens for egg production (feed to egg conversion) Maximising egg weight 1
Rearing The feeding and management of pullets during the growing period have major effects on egg production and egg weights during the laying period. Mistakes made during the growing period can lead to poor production in lay and cannot easily be corrected during the laying period. Therefore the correct timing of diet changes is necessary to ensure that body weight and uniformity targets are met. production. Medullary bone acts as a calcium reservoir, from which the mature hen can quickly mobilise calcium for eggshell formation. The rearing objective is to provide all the required nutrients in the correct amount at the right time to achieve the recommended target body weight and uniformity for age. The rearing of layer pullets is critical for the performance of the flock at the time of lay. Pullets on target body weight at maturity generally become the best producing layers. Starter (V668) has high levels of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals to ensure optimum growth for this stage of the bird s life. Grower (V667) has slightly lower protein while maintaining the mineral balance similar to the starter diet. Both the Starter and Grower ensure optimum organ and skeletal development for the future laying hen. Epol Pullet Developer (V19686) ensures the pullet deposits lean muscle tissue and body fat reserves for the early onset of production. The slightly higher calcium increases the intramedullary bone deposition and prepares the pullet for egg 2

No. CODE FEATURES FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS FEEDING PERIOD Starter Grower V668 V Feed range with high protein and energy levels to ensure optimum growth and development for the future laying hen g/pullet g/pullet 0-56 days or 8 weeks 57 days to transfer or 15 weeks if the Epol Pullet Developer is offered Epol Pullet Developer V Ensures deposition of lean muscle tissue and body reserves for the early onset of production g/bird/day weeks Feed intake is influenced by the environmental temperature, breed and humidity as well as the energy and amino acid profile of the diet; hence these recommendations should be used as a guideline. REARING = FEEDING FOR OPTIMUM DEVELOPMENT 3
Laying Epol layer feeds have been developed to maintain constant nutrient intake and maximise the efficiency of the hens for egg production. As flocks age, their nutrient requirements change. To meet the requirements of the laying hen, it is best to phase-feed these flocks for the duration of the laying cycle. It is important to note that feed consumption depends on environmental temperature, breed, humidity, the energy level and amino acid profile of the diet. The Super range is for the farmer who is aiming at maximising egg weight and efficiency (feed to egg conversion). It can also be used for flocks that have been poorly reared to get production levels up to standard. The range should be used on farms where the aim is optimal egg weight and efficiency (feed to egg conversion). The Farmix range must be admixed with maize. When mixed at the correct proportion, the finished feed will be similar to the range. 4
