Entry fees will be $1 per bird and $2 per trio for Classes 1-15, $1 per lot for Classes This show will be both a production and an exhibition show. The same strain of birds within the breed or variety should not generally be shown as both production and exhibition. An exhibitor will be limited to no more than three entries per lot for chickens and two entries per lot for waterfowl. Exhibitors will be limited to no more than 100 entries; total entries for the entire show will be capped at 1,200. First come first served. 5. MAKING AN ENTRY (be sure to get the correct class and lot for large fowl and/or bantams) Combine the breed or variety lot number, with the letter denoting the sex and age grouping of the exhibit as follows: A. Cock B. Hen C. Cockerel D. Pullet E. Old Trio F. Young Trio EXAMPLE: Class 1, Lot 3B, New Hampshire Hen Class 5, Lot 15F, Buttercup Young Trio 6. A trio will consist of one cock and two hens or a cockerel and two pullets. Birds entered in trios cannot be entered singly, or birds entered as singles cannot be entered as trios. All standard trios will be given a double-size coop. 7. A cock or hen is a bird one year old or more in age. A cockerel or pullet is a bird under one year of age. Entries must be at least four months of age to exhibit. 8. "AOV" indicates "Any Other Variety". In the AOV classes, all varieties entered will compete together. AOV birds must be a recognized variety of that breed. AOB indicates Any Other Breed. All breeds and varieties entered will compete together. AOB birds must be a recognized breed and variety of that lot. 9. No trios may be entered in Classes An exhibitor may enter three single birds per lot. 10. Cooping: Coop litter and feed will be furnished by the Societies and donors, and the birds will be cared for by the exhibitors, the Superintendent and Assistant. All birds must be inspected by the Superintendent or Assistant. Birds showing any of the following problems will not be allowed to exhibit and will be sent home immediately: disease, lice, mites, dirty feather condition, excessive missing or broken feathers, wounds, under-age or no leg bands on birds over one year of age. For Special Cooping needs please call the Superintendent. BIRDS MAY BE BROUGHT IN NOON TO 6 PM ON SUNDAY 8/12 BIRDS MUST BE IN PLACE BY NOON MONDAY 8/13 All birds must be inspected and accepted by the Superintendent or Assistant before they are cooped. The Superintendent reserves the right to refuse or reject any birds that will impair the show and any birds that show indications of disease. The Superintendent reserves the right to double-coop single exhibits belonging to the same exhibitor when it is necessary to conserve space. Birds must be placed only in coops designed for their use by the Superintendent. No birds entered and cooped may be removed or replaced at any time without the full knowledge and permission of the Superintendent. Owners will forfeit their premium money if they remove their birds prior to official release time. 11. Disease Control: All poultry except pigeons and waterfowl shall have originated from US Pullorum-clean flocks and have had a negative pullorum-typhoid test for the current year. All birds over one year of age must be banded to indicate a negative test. This includes pheasants and quails. A copy of this test must accompany your entry form. Birds showing symptoms of disease at any time during the show will be removed from the building immediately and cared for and the owner notified or the birds returned to him. This rule will be strictly enforced. The Superintendent will make every effort to prevent the spread of colds and other respiratory diseases. However; it is strongly recommended that when poultry are taken home from the show, they
2 be isolated from other poultry for a period of at least three weeks to help prevent the possible spread of contagious diseases. Shipping crates should be taken home after delivering the birds and not returned before the close of the fair. Societies reserve the right to send to the New York State Poultry Laboratory for diagnosis any birds that should die during the period of being on exhibit. All birds entered in this show in any classes should be relatively clean and free from lice. 12. Judging: The latest edition of the American Standard of Perfection will be the guide for judging relative to standards, cuts and disqualifications in exhibition birds. Birds shown in production classes should be relatively clean and free from lice. Production qualities will be stressed in judging as suggested below. General Purpose: Hens will be placed upon evidence of high egg production such as handling qualities, lack of pigmentation and molt. Pullets will be judged upon size, quality, early maturity and other evidences of potential egg production. In all females, attention will be given to head type, vitality, lack of disease symptoms and deformities. Some attention will be given to breed and variety size, type, color and freedom from major standard defects and/or disqualifications. Males will be judged with emphasis upon head type, vigor, body capacity and the standard qualities previously mentioned. Egg Production: Judging will be similar to that used on the general purpose breeds, except that more stress will be placed upon egg production qualities in females. Meat Production: Major emphasis in judging will be placed upon meat qualities such as fleshing, feathering, body shape, finish and freedom from deformities and defects such as breast blisters and fatty abdomens. Good fleshing on breast and legs is most important. Advertising: No special sales displays may be set up without previous permission of the Superintendent. Advertising cards are invited to be placed upon the coops after the exhibits have been judged and with the Superintendent's approval. There will be a championship awarded for each Class. The best birds will qualify for the champion large fowl, bantam or waterfowl. The top three will compete for supreme champion of the poultry show. Champion birds will be placed on champion row. Special best of breed ribbons will also be awarded. 13. Please indicate on the entry form the total number of birds exhibited in this Department. 14. There will be a designated area for the parking of all livestock trailers. You will no longer be able to park anywhere on the hill or along the fence line by the barns. 15. All animal exhibits will close at 7 PM on Sunday. Release time depends on weather and traffic conditions but should be no later than 9 PM.
