Locality : Tangmarg and Bejbihara. Large number of parasites were collected from domestic J fov-jls collected from different localities. These were found to belong to Menopon gallinae Linnaeus, DESCRIPTION: MALE: Body small, pale yellow in colour, measuring mm. in length and mm. in width. Head, traingular, measuring mm. in length and mm. in diameter. Antenna four segmented. Prothorax large and movable. Mesothorax very narrow, completely fused with metathorax, bearing small setae. Legs covered with golden brown hairs. The number of setae on 1,1 and III leg are four. Abdomen ten segmented. Tergites all approximately
3 225 of equal length tergocentral setae. setae very long on VII - X segments. Post spiracular Last' segment with distinct genital plate with short bristles. FEMALE: Body measures mm in length and mm in maximum width. Head measures mm in length and mm in diameter. A pair of compound eyes present. Antennae four segmented. Head with 4 pairs of long marginal setae. Marginal abdominal tergal setae from II - X are REMARKS: While comparing with the known species of the. genus the present form shows close resemblance to Menopon gallinae Linnaeus, 1758.

6 227 MENACANTHUS S'llWlINEUS (Nltzsch, 1818) Hopkins and clay,1952 (Figs. 1-4) (Plate - XXVI, ^ MALLOPHAGA Nitzsch, 1818 MENOPONIDAE MENACANTHUS MENACANTHUS CORNUTUS ( Nitzsch, 1818)' Hopkins & Clay, 1952 Host : Callus gallu's domesticus Location : Body feather Locality : Chattabal, Qamarw.ari and G u n d. Large number of Arthropod parasites were collected from Callus gallus domesticus. Among these., 12 were found belonging to the genus Menacanthus which, are described herein.briefly. DESCRIPTION: Yellow coloured bo dy louse of Callus domesticus. MALE: Male measures mm in length and mm in maximum breadth. Head measures mm in length and mm in diameter. Maxillary palps present. Antennae three segmented. Head with three pairs of long marginal setae. Meso and metathorax well developed. DorsUm of meso and metathorax with few short setae on the lateral margins. Abdominal tergites essentially of similar lengths.
7 228 Marginal abdominal tergal setae range between Post spiracular setae very long on I - III and VIII - X. Genitalia centrally postioned and measure mm in length and mm in width. FEMALE: It measures mm in length and mm in maximum width. Head measures mm in length and mm in diameter. Antennae three segmented. Dorsum of meso and metathorax with short setae on lateral margins. Third femora with typical loose setal brush. Setae are also present on the coxa of I and II legs. Abdominal tefgites vi/ith setae as in male except the IX segment which bears a row of central abdominal setae., R EMARKS: While comparing with the known species of Menacanthus the present form shows close similarity to M. stramineus, (Nitzsch, 1818) ilopkiris and Clay, 1952 in its morphological characters.

10 230 GONIOCOTES GALLINAE (DeGeer, 1778) Hopkins and Clay, (Figs. 1-4) (Plate - XXVII) MALLOPHAGA Nitzsch, 1818 PHILOPTERIDAE GONIOCOTES GALLINAE DeGeer, 1778 Host : Gallus gallus dotnesticus Location : Body feathers. Locality : Bejbihara Two males and few females were collected from the body feathers of domestic fowl. These were identified and assigned to Goniocotes gallinae (DeGeer, 1778) Hopkins and I Clay, DESCRIPTION: M A L E : Male measures mm in length and mm in maximum breadth. Head measures mm in length and 0.45 mm in diam.eter. Two long setae on each side of the head in the post antennal region; remainder chaetotaxy of the head with only short setae. Antennae five segmented. Meso and nietathorax ^^;ell developed. Abdominal, segments 8 and are of equal length. Abdominal chaetotaxy there are large marginal setae and small anterior tergal setae. Post spiracular setae long.^ Femora v\7ith short setae. Male genitalia centrally positioned.
11 231 FEMALE: It measures mm in length and mm in maximum breadth. Head mm in length and mm in diameter. Antennae five segmented. Chaetotaxy of the body as in male. Last segment with long marginal setae. REMARKS: The present form comes inconformity with the Goniocotes ga 11inae (DeGeer, 1778) Hopkins and Clay, 1952 to which it is assigned.

14 233 LIPEURUS CAPONIS Linnaeus, (Figs. 1-5) MALLOPHAGA Nitzsch, 1818 PHILOPTERIDAE LIPEURUS LIPEURUS CAPONIS Linnaeus, 1758 Host ; Gallus gallus domestlcus Location : Wing feathers. Locality : Qamarwari. Ten specimens were recovered from the wing feathers of a domestic fowl. These were identified and found to belong to Lipeurus caponis Linnaeus, DESCRIPTION: Wing louse of domestic fowl, dark brown in colour, occurs underside the feathers of wing. M A L E : Total length of male is mm and mm in width; Head measures mm in length and mm in diameter in the post antennal region. Antennae five segmentedl Prothorax well developed and measures 0.24 x 0.3 mm. Meso and metathorax fused. Abdomen mm. in length and the abdominal tergites are of similar lengths Femora and the
15 234 tarsus of II and III leg bear setae. 'The abdominal tergites IV and IX bear long post spiracular setae. Genitalia centrally positioned and measure 0.35 mm in length and 0.13 mm in diameter. FEMALE: It measures mm in length and mm in breadth. diameter. Posterior margin of vulva with a row of short setae. REMARKS: The present form is assigned to Lipeurus caponis Linnaeus, 1758 in its morphological pecularities. It is reported for the first time from this region.

Four specimens were recovered from the intestine of a domestic duck collected from Islamabad. These were found to belong to Trinoton anserinum Fabricius, DESCRIPTION: Male: Male measures,1.95 mm in length and mm in maximum width. Head measures 0.33 mm in length and 0.5 mm in diameter. Prothorax measures 0.1 mm in length and 0.34 mm in width. Meso and metathorax fused. Abdomen ten segmented. Marginal abdominal tergal setae I - X, 6-14 and abdominal sternal setae from II - X, Male genitelia centrally positioned and measure 0.5 mm in length and 0.18 mm in V'^idth.
