2 THE STORY OF A LEGEND François COLLARD was born in 1936 and his whole life was based on the pigeon sport. At a very young age, he already learned all about the pigeon sport and very soon, he dominated the sport. Already in 1956, he came in the spot lights with his 1 Ace pigeon one day long distance KBDB with his AVIGNON against other fanciers like HUYSKENS VAN RIEL, STICHELBAUT, BRICOUX... At that time, a man wanted to introduce the pigeons because his own results weren t that good : RICHARD MERSCH from Stree. He introduced some pigeons of COLLARD and he immediately succeeded. The basic cock of the loft RICH- ARD MERSCH is the FRANCO (FRAN- COIS COLLARD) This fabulous breeder is grandfather of the FAVORIET, Gr Father 1 National Argenton, Gr Father 1 National Angouleme and Gr Father of the GOOD HEN. This hen is mother of the world famous JULES 11, which is also son of LARCIN and LARCIN is nephew of FRANCO. JULES 11 and the pigeons from MERSCH also became the base of world famous lofts like ENGLE- BIENNE, MARC ROOSENS. During this period François COLLARD also dominated the middle distance but unfortunately he had to quit in 1969 to build his business. In 1977, he decided to start again within the pigeon sport and he preferred to race the middle distances. He knew very well, that he needed 1 day long distance pigeons to build his loft and he tried to find his own string again, in cross breed with ROOSENS, MERSCH, ENGLE- BIENNE & MAGAIN. Immediately, the name of COLLARD appeared again with 1978 : 1 NAT ACE MIDDLE DISTANCE This was the beginning of the incredible success on the middle distance races with 3 NATIONAL VICTORIES : 1 NATIONAL ARGENTON 81 1 NATIONAL LIMOGES 83 1 NATIONAL BOURGES 91 He also won many times the LCB CHAM- PIONSHIP and more than 90 TOP 100 NATIONAL between 1978 and François COLLARD is a man who has a lot of experience and knowledge when it comes down to the pigeon sport, RICH- ARD MERSCH said : FRANCOIS COL- LARD IS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE PI- GEON FANCIER I HAVE EVER SEEN, JULES GALEZ said : MR COLLARD IS THE BEST OF THE BEST TO BREED GOOD PIGEONS AND CHOSE GOOD BREEDERS. At the end of the nineties,; François dreamed about a new purpose; to dominate the one day long distance (500 Km till 850 Km) because for him, as for many other great champions, on this races only the best pigeons can make the difference; no wind, no large groups of pigeons, no manipulation can make the difference : ONLY THE PIGEON. That s probably the reason why all the best racers in Belgium build their own loft on this kind of pigeons like: LIMBOURG ERIC, DE RAUW SABLON, AELBRECHT, VAN DEN HEEDE, VERBRUGGEN and many more. For this Mr COLLARD has a special hand to select pigeons to breed with. He doesn t need 100 breeders, he only needs 2 or 3 and with these 2 or 3 cracks he breeds every year more than 40 youngsters of each one with different hens. Here for he bought THE STICHEBAUT an original STICHELBAUT and then he visited DEVOS ETIENNE and after a long discussion he returned with a full sister of KLEINE DIDI. Already 5 times, Etienne Devos tried to buy his hen back. But the main introduction and the most successful one is certainly THE , which he bought at the total auction of DE RAUW SABLON in When he saw this N 76 of the auction, he had a certain connection with the bird. When he saw this pigeon before the auction, he became crazy and he worried if he didn t return back home with this bird. So to be sure that nobody would bid against him (because everybody knew that had the knowledge) he asked a friend to bid for him and he bought the pigeon with success. He returned back home with this jewel and he immediately used the stallion system with him in One of the first youngsters he breed won 1 SNATIONAL LA CHATRE Yrl. The new base was build and actually we can calculate more than 20 different direct sons of this STALION DE RAUW that won top 80 NATIONAL ONE DAY LONG DISTANCE. In the same period, François had a special direct son from SISTER DIDI Devos X LE CAHORS : THE /02 STALION DIDI, this cock won in 2004 & 2005 : 173 NAT NARBONNE, 206 NAT CAHORS, 247 NAT CAHORS, 261 NAT LIMOGES and François liked this cock very much and after this results he moved him in the breeding loft, where he became the second basic breeder. He crossed this super cock with a daughter of STALION DE RAUW and a hen of this string was successful with more than 60 times within the top 100 NATIONAL BETWEEN 2004 & 2012 with sons from STALION DE RAUW & son from STALION DIDI. At that time (2004 till 2012) Francois decided to only participate to 3 Long distance races each year. Because of his age, he didn t have the strength any more to play all the races, the youngsters are only training and the yearlings are only prepared on provincial races, every fancier knows how difficult it is to race when you don t have enough strength : the results of François will be more appreciated when you know this. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and François decided because of his illness to stop the pigeon sport and to present all his pigeons in a public auction... He has written history in the pigeon sport with his success and now he will right the story again with his strings like DE RAUW SA- BLON.
