1 Proud owners, Top animals and striking breed products Part 2 The weekend of September 2008 in the Spanish village Camallera, located on the Costa Brava in the province Gerona, the annual exhibition of Amics de les Aus (Friends of Avicultura) was held. About 1200 numbers were entered and judges from the Netherlands, France, Belgium and - of course - Spain had been invited to judge the animals. Right: The winning pigeon of this show was a Valencian (Figurita) Frill. This bird shows the very striking head line and the characteristic stance. In the picture the wings look a bit open and loose. This blue black barred pigeon obviously carries the smoky factor. Below: Official opening was performed by the Mayor of Camallera.

2 Left: The Mongi Girat is the Spanish Nun, without (shell) crest. It belongs to the large group of Catalonian high flyers and tumblers. Right: This French Fancy Pigeon breed originated in the Gier valley, between Lyon and Saint Etienne and at the beginning of the previous century it was created by crossings between the French Bagadet and a Pigeon of a Homer type. The breed has not been recognised in the Netherlands, but in Germany and in France it is present at the shows in large numbers. The breed has its own' specific colours and markings; this colour is called biche' (mealy). Left: A fancy Pigeon breed of the Baleares, called Pinto Balear, closely related to the L'Escampadissa of the Baleares. Right: Catalonian Tumbler, in Spain called Cap de Frare. This breed belongs to the group of Catalonian high flyers and tumblers. Left: Another Cap de Frare, this time in a bronze variety, as in the Danish Svaber.

Probably a part of a planned breeding program to create a new colour. Left: Chorrera, the would-be ancestors of the Chinese Owl, with this difference that the size of the Chorrera is considerably smaller than that of the Chinese Owl. Moreover, at the Chorrera shoulder rosettes are desired plus a flat descending fronthead, with which the beak forms a straight line, such as we see at the Valencian (Figurita) Frill. Closely related to the L Escampadissa from the Baleares.

4 Left: Borino, another Tumbler Breed from the Baleares. The colour of this pigeon looks like kite pied, i.e. black with bronze and white flecks. Right: This breed, formerly called the Mallorca Pouter, is now (after a modernization of the type) known as the Balear Pouter. The Breed originated in Valencia, with influences from the Murcia Pouter and the Rafeña Pouter. Left: A very young Catalonian Tumbler, the Cap de Frare in again another colour! 5 Right: For this Show the Local Sports Hall was transformed into a splendid place by means of many plants and banners. Left: Black Chabo with black head, comb, eyes, legs and nails, in Japan known as Shinguro Chabo. As they are especially selected on that black colour, their type is less extreme than that of the normal Chabo. They are rather rare. In the Netherlands this variety has been recognised under the name: Black headed Chabo and in Spain as Nagasaki Cara Negra. Left: Ashy-headed goose. Right: Red-breasted geese. 6 Left: In a 2 square meters open cage with heat lamps were some hundred day-old chicks. Things like this are very attractive, especially for the young visitors. 7 The bi-annual Fancy Pigeon Festival The 8 th South Netherland Fancy Pigeon Show took place from October 31 till November 2, 2008 in Loon op Zand (NL). The proud secretary of this show, Mr. Henk Kluskens, welcomed the visitors at the entrance of this splendid show with high quality pigeons, organised by the four Fancy Pigeon Clubs in the province of North Brabant: Het Zuiden, Bois le Duc, WBSV and ETSV. This show presented the provincial Championship of the NBS for the province of North Brabant, implying that honorary-certificates for the Best Pigeon of each judge are to win. The breeder of a pigeon that is awarded with three honorary-certificates by three different judges, will be presented with a Champion Diploma at the annual Club Meeting of the Dutch Fancy Pigeon Union NBS. Right: The very beautiful invitation card of this show was decorated with a drawing, made by a group member of the Prisma Foundation, a Centre for disabled people, to which this year s profit of the Pigeon Auction will be donated. One of the site activities of this Show is the Pigeon and Book Auction, but there is also the annual topic, concerning the beneficiary of the Charity Pigeon Auction. This year, the wellknown pigeon photographer Dick Hamer acted as auctioneer and sold the fifteen pairs of pigeons that were donated by various Top Breeders. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this year s auction will benefit the Prisma foundation. This is a Centre for disabled people. The group members created their own disbe informed play at the show, where the public could about the activities of the Prisma Foundation. The nomination of the Prisma Foundation as Beneficiary by the governing board of the SZN was received with pride and joy and even resulted in a number of the Prima Foundation occupants helping - within their capabilities - with building up the pens at this show. This auction is a splendid initiative, giving breeders a chance to buy a splendid couple of fancy pigeons and the SZN to show their involvement with the more vulnerable and disabled people of our community.
