2 Where to use Aviguard Aviguard should be used whenever there is a need for establishment or re-establishment of the normal intestinal bacteria. 1.In day old chicks and poults Aviguard is sprayed on the birds to establish optimal intestinal colonisation by beneficial bacteria, helping prevent colonisation by pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella, E.coli and Clostridium perfringens. The natural beneficial bacteria in Aviguard attach to specific sites in the gut and colonise it, preventing pathogenic strains taking hold. 2. In older birds Aviguard may be given in the drinking water to restore or re-establish the beneficial intestinal flora in the following situations: After antibiotic treatment. One dose is given 48 hours after completion of treatment to re-colonise the gut with beneficial bacteria To protect against infection by Salmonella, pathogenic strains of E.coli and Clostridium perfringens For the prevention of necrotic enteritis To manage antibiotic resistance At any time of stress in the bird s life including relocation, peak of lay, forced moulting, bitting etc, when resistance to disease may be reduced To improve litter quality Aviguard should be used for at least three consecutive crop cycles or every six weeks initially to allow build up of beneficial bacteria within the environment
