1 2017 Wood County Jr. Fair Poultry and Fowl *Note Market Duck and Goose Class additions! A. Pen of Three Meat Chickens (Meat Breeds only) 1. Fryers, lbs. each (6-8 weeks old; in possession of chicks by June 20) Max pen weight=16.5 Any pens over this weight will be shown as roasters. 2. Roasters, lbs. each (8-10 weeks old; in possession of chicks by June 5) Max pen weight=22.5lbs 3. May exhibit only one pen of Broilers. B. Pen of Two Exhibition Bird (Standard Fancy, Bantam Fancy, Guinea Fowl, Pheasant, Quail, Partridge, Peacock and Pigeon) 1. Possession by May 1 or 5 days after hatch. 2. Two birds: one cock and one hen is preferred. 3. May exhibit two pens but must be different classes. C. Pen of Two Laying Chickens (Laying Breeds only). 1. Pullets, 6 months old or younger. (Possession date by June 1 or 5 days after hatch (Must not be laying. Layers will be moved to hen class.) 2. Hens, 6 months old and older. Last year s pullets may be brought back as hens. 3. May exhibit only one pen of Laying Chickens. D. Pen of Two Exhibition Large Fowl (Exhibition Ducks, Exhibition Geese and Purebred Turkey). 1. Exhibition Ducks: Pen of two; Possession date by May 1 2. Exhibition Goose: Pen of two; Possession date by May 1 3. Exhibition Turkey: Pen of two; Possession date by May 1 2. May exhibit only one pen of large fowl (select 1 duck or 1 goose pen) E. Pen of Two Market Large Fowl (Market Ducks and Market Geese) 1. Market Ducks- 7-9lbs; Pen of two; Possession date June 10 or approx. 50 days prior to exhibition 2. Market Goose: 9-13lbs; Pen of two; Possession Date May 1 or days prior to exhibition. 2. May exhibit only one pen of market large fowl (select 1 duck or 1 goose pen) F. Meat Turkey. 1. Possession date by May 1 or 5 days after hatch. 2. One bird of either sex. 3. Must weigh over 10 lbs. by fair. (Ideal weight for a bird is between lbs. Birds over 30 lbs are extremely difficult to process.) 4. May exhibit only one pen (one bird). Special Rules: * Only Meat Pens (market chickens, market turkey, market ducks, market geese) sell at the Wood County Jr. Fair Livestock Sale. Grand & Reserve Champions must sell. * Exhibitors with Market Chickens, Market Turkeys, Market Ducks, Market Geese, and Egg Laying Chickens are required to attend a quality assurance training meeting (club or

In addition, DUNF/NPIP15 forms must be turned in at fair weigh-in on Sunday evening from 7-9 PM. * PLEASE NOTE: All poultry exhibitors must comply with the following rule (does not include waterfowl or pigeons) and show evidence thru bill of sale or otherwise on Sunday, July 30 between 7-9 pm. a) Birds originated directly from a flock which has had a negative test for Pollorum/Fowl Typhoid Disease (NPIP15). b) Birds have had a negative test of Pullorum/Fowl Typhoid Disease (NPIP15) within 90 days of fair. Project Requirements Project 150CEP - Raise 1 pen (2 birds) of pullets or hens (minimum). Project 150CM - Raise 1 pen (3 birds) of fryers or roasters (minimum). Project 150CE - Raise 1 or 2 pens (2 birds/pen) of purebred exhibition chickens (same breed). Project 150TM - Raise 1 pen (1 bird) of market turkeys (tom or hen). Project 150DE - Raise 1 pen (2 birds) of exhibition ducks. Project 150DM Raise 1 pen (2 birds) of market ducks. Project 150GE Raise 1 pen (2 birds) of exhibition geese. Project 150GM Raise 1 pen (2 birds) of market geese. Project 150H Raise 1 pen (2 birds) of exhibition helmeted guinea fowl Project Self Determined Game Bird, raise one pen of two game birds. Showing Poultry at Fair *Members are invited to exhibit their projects at the Wood County Fair. 1. Showmanship: 1 st year (9-10 year olds), Jr. / Sr. division. 2. Showmanship exhibitors will bring one bird to the show ring for examination and placing. 3. Judging: birds will be evaluated at the cage unless judge requires different arrangement. Order of Show: Showmanship: Senior, Junior 1 st Year prelims followed by Champion class Judging: Meat Chickens (fryers, roasters), Laying Chickens (pullets, hens), Exhibition Birds (see fairbook), Exhibition Large Fowl, Market Large Fowl), Meat Turkeys All 4-H Members must follow these guidelines. 1. Keep accurate records of your projects. 2. Participate in Livestock Interview Judging and Skillathon Thursday, July 13 th from 1:00-6:30 p.m. in the Jr. Fair Building. 3. Exhibitors of meat chickens, meat turkeys and laying chicken exhibitors must turn in a DUNF Form at weigh-in. Exhibitors must also participate in a Quality Assurance Training Program. 4. All poultry exhibitors (except waterfowl and pigeons) must turn in a negative test for Pollorum/fowl typhoid disease or a hatchery waiver saying they are a Pollorum free hatchery

3 (NPIP15) at check-in on Sunday, July 30 between 7-9 pm. Bring a copy of your NPIP forms for the Poultry Committee to keep on file. 5. Be a good 4-H club member, practice good sportsmanship and show ethics. 6. Care Of Poultry: All members are responsible for the feeding, watering and bedding of their Poultry or Fowl project. Failure to do so will result in the following: A) First Warning B) Second Warning loss of premium C) Third Warning Removal from the grounds, forfeiture of awards or sale & loss of show privileges for the following year. 7. Replacing Poultry is permitted at the discretion of the Jr Fair Poultry Committee. 8. Follow the Jr. Fair Dress Code for all judging events and shows. For more information see the 4-H New Family Handbook or Wood County 4-H website. 9. Follow all rules as written in the Wood County Fair Book. Show Days & Times and other Important Dates *Poultry Check-In and Market Weigh-in: Sunday, July 30 between 7-9 pm. You must show evidence of negative Pollorum/Fowl typhoid disease (form 9-3) at check-in. No form= no show! Poultry Tester will not be available at the Fair. All Poultry must have the approved testing ahead of time. Also turn in your DUNF at this time for all market and egg laying birds. *Mandatory Barn Meeting: Monday, Monday, July 8:00 AM *Poultry Showmanship: Wednesday, August 2, 8:30 AM *Poultry Judging: Thursday, August 3, 9:00 AM Grand Champion Poultry Project Scoring A.
