1 Junior Poultry & Rabbit Department 1. Exhibitors must be in uniform. 2. Please fill out all entry forms completely, including breed, variety, sex, color and identification number. 3. Entry fees are $2.00 per entry, except as stated elsewhere. 4. All exhibitors will be responsible for one 3-hour shift one day to help care for animals. Sign-up for shifts at time of check-in. 5. Show management reserves the right to place more than one female of the same variety belonging to the same exhibitor in one coop. 6. No identification cards, pedigrees or advertising will be allowed on or near the cages until after the completion of judging. 7. Animals showing evidence of diseases or external parasites will not be cooped in or will be removed by the show manager and placed in an isolated area until they may be removed by their owner. Animals showing evidence of disease or external parasites will not be judged. 8. The show manager and the Napa Valley Exposition take every precaution to care for and secure all entries but accept no responsibility for loss of entries due to illness or theft. 9. Exhibitors are responsible to handle their animals for judging or to have another exhibitor who is designated to handle the animals for judging. Animals will not be moved by building personnel. 10. Exhibitors are responsible for the daily care and feeding of your own animals. 11. NEW FOR 2019: In order to participate in a youth livestock program (excluding horse, cavies & dogs) at any California Fair, all exhibitors 9 years of age and older must obtain annual certification in the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) program or a comparable fair run program approved by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, Fairs and Expositions Branch. Those not certified are not eligible to participate at a California Fair. 2 Showmanship Showmanship Date: Tuesday, August 6th, Cavies at 9:00 am Rabbits at 9:30 am Entry Fee: $3.00 per entry (Limit 1 entry per class, per exhibitor) 1. Only animals owned and entered by the exhibitor may be shown in the showmanship classes. 2. Age categories are the exhibitor s age as of January 1, Age categories are as follows: Novice - Ages 5-8 Junior - Ages 9 11 Intermediate - Ages Senior - Ages Official uniforms must be worn. Open to eligible members placing 1st in their respective showmanship classes Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Novice winner will not compete in Small Animal Master Showmanship. 2. Should an exhibitor qualify in more than one Division (i.e. Exhibitor placing 1st in Rabbit Showmanship and 1st in Poultry Showmanship) Livestock Superintendent will designate which specie that exhibitor will show in Master Showmanship. The 2nd place exhibitor of the then open species will then move up to become eligible for Round Robin. 3. After the Awards Program, scores will be posted at the Livestock Office. 4. Pygmy Goats will show in the Small Animal Master Showmanship. 5. Small Animal Master Showmanship will include the following: Rabbits, Pygmy Goats and Cavies.

3 Junior Poultry Department **UPDATED INFORMATION ABOUT JUNIOR POULTRY SHOW** Due to the current outbreak of virulent Newcastle disease (VND) in California, the poultry* show has been cancelled for this year. *Poultry means all chickens, turkeys, turkins, pheasants, peafowl, guinea fowl, quail, ducks, geese, swans, gallinules, doves, pigeons, grouse, partridges, francolin, tinamou, ostriches, and other ratites (including but not limited to the rhea, emu, and cassowary), and hatching or embryonated eggs. WHAT KINDS OF BIRDS GET VND? All birds can be infected with VND. In most cases the disease will kill chickens. Other birds may not get sick but can still spread the disease to chickens and other pet birds. HOW IS VND SPREAD? The disease is spread by direct contact between birds, by coughing and sneezing, and through droppings. People can spread VND by moving infected birds, moving equipment and feed, and by wearing clothing and shoes that have been in infected areas. DOES VND INFECT PEOPLE? Properly cooked meat and eggs from infected birds are safe to eat. In rare cases, people in extremely close contact with infected birds may get a mild fever, and redness and swelling in the area around the eyes. These symptoms usually go away without medical treatment WHAT DOES VND LOOK LIKE IN BIRDS? There may be swelling around the eyes, a purplish swelling of the wattle and comb, a large amount of fluid coming from the beak and nasal areas, a twisting of the neck and head, a loss of appetite, diarrhea, and sometimes sudden death WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP If you think your birds are sick please immediately call the Sick Bird Hotline at: Keep your birds away from other birds. If you visit family or friends with birds, shower, wash your clothes, and change your shoes before handling your birds. Don t visit them without taking these same steps if you have handled your birds. Try to keep people who also own birds from visiting your property Share information about VND with family and friends HOW TO PROTECT YOUR BIRDS Wash hands and scrub boots before and after entering an area with birds Avoid sharing equipment; clean and disinfect equipment and tires before moving them between properties Isolate any bird returning from shows for 30 days before placing them with the rest of the flock Do not bring any new birds on to your property as long as the disease is in California. Rules, definitions and judging procedures, as prescribed in the latest edition of the Guide Book and Standard of the American Rabbit Breeders Association, Inc., shall apply to all District and County Fairs regulations prescribed by the Department of Food and Agriculture, Division of Fairs and Expositions. 2. All animals, including cavies, must be permanently earmarked in the animal s left ear, conforming with the entry form, upon arrival at the show. Any duplication with the ear markings by one exhibitor in the same class must be eliminated and the change recorded on the judging sheet check-in. 3. All rabbits shown in the Breed Divisions must be of a recognized breed and variety under the current A.R.B.A. standards. All mixed breed rabbits may be shown in the Small Pets Division and Showmanship only. If no class is offered, no awards will be made. 4. The age in months must be entered on the entry form on each animal entered in breed classes. 5. Because of limited space, the management reserves the right to return entries. Entry fees will be returned only on entries returned by show management because of space limitation. 6. Any substitutions of rabbits must be within the same breed and class. Substitutions must be made at time of check-in. Two substitutions per exhibitor may be made free of charge. The fee for any additional substitutions will be $5.00 per change, to be paid at the time of check-in. 7. Exhibitors should be present for the judging of their animals and to help with the running of the show. 8. Exhibitors must be present for all Judging. 9. Champion Rabbit Meat Pen & Reserve Champion Rabbit Meat Pen 1. A single meat pen entry consists of 3 rabbits, all the same breed and variety, not more than 10 weeks old (70 days). No meat shall be less than 3.5lbs. nor exceed 5.5lbs. 2. All rabbits must be weighed in the presence of the judge. If anyone rabbit in the pen weighs in over the weight limit, the entire pen is disqualified. 3. If any one rabbit in the pen is disqualified, the entire pen is disqualified. 4. A meat pen is judged on the meat type and condition of each rabbit, and the uniformity of the pen. 5. The Champion and Reserve Champion Meat Pens ONLY will be automatically entered in the Junior Livestock Auction. If you do not want to participate in the Junior Livestock Auction, you must declare at the time of entry by printing "I DO NOT INTEND TO PARTICIPATE IN THE JUNIOR LIVESTOCK AUCTION" on your entry form. 6.
