Like normal this auction is a culmination of a whole year s work, we started our very successful Night of the Stars auctions a few years ago and we have now created the best auction of the year and certainly the biggest and best auction of the whole Blackpool Show weekend. Just as we have done in the past, we have put together another fabulous auction of the best pigeons possible and from the biggest and best selection of fanciers ever seen before under one roof. We realise there will be many auctions conducted over the Blackpool weekend and many of them will offer good pigeons but as always, we want our auctions to stand out above the rest and we thought the best way to do this was to offer the UK fanciers the best possible selection of pigeons from the biggest names in the game. We once again insisted that all of this year s biggest names offer up something

2 EXTRA special, we always ask each fancier to select the best handling pigeons that were bred from their best pigeons and put them to one side for this special auction. The selection, as always has to be strict, UK fanciers demand the very best. We explain to each fancier that the birds are going into a live auction where they will be handled and judged by the UK fancy, which is home to some of the best fanciers in the world and that if they are not good enough, they would be rejected no matter what they are bred from or from whose loft they come. We trust each and every fancier to do the best for you and when they called us to tell us of their selections and we have to say that once again each fancier really has come up with the goods; there is so much quality on offer from so many talented fanciers that it is impossible to say which lot is the star of the auction. Indeed each and every lot is a star on its own. This is right up there with any of our previous Night of the Stars auctions. We want to make it clear to all fanciers who might attend our auctions that there is absolutely no online bidding before the sale. The most eyecatching result came from Mark Gilbert from the United Kingdom: Mark won a 1st and 2nd National St. Vincent, with a granddaughter and a son of Starlight, the former champion of the Meirlaen pigeon breed (winner of a 2nd Internat. Tarbes). Here is a closer look at the best results of the Meirlaen pigeon breed in other lofts this season: Team Freddy De Jaeger: winner of a 1st International Barcelona 2018 (the sire is a direct Meirlaen pigeon, Mark Gilbert won 1st National Poitiers in 2018 (the dam is a direct daughter of Starlight, which is a direct Meirlaen pigeon, Mark Gilbert also won a 1st National Pau 2018 BICC (with a son of Starlight: winner of a 2nd International Tarbes 12,549b. for Et. His pigeons are ultra-reliable at the middle to long distance events and he has sent us something special for this auction. His team has won several top references and has claimed several victories in other lofts as well. Rudi de Saer has really made a name for himself over the years, achieving fantastic results with an excellent group of pigeons. In the early 1990s Rudi cleverly decided to obtain pigeons from almost every champion in Gaby Vandenabeele's collection. It was an instant success, as these pigeons allowed him to raise the bar, and to develop into an international champion in the national long distance races. The descendants of Gaby Vandenabeele's stock breeder Kleinen would soon turn the loft from Ruiselede around. In fact, he has played a pivotal role in the many successes of this pigeon breed. What would this team have been without their Forrest Gump, who is now enjoying his retirement. He fertilised an egg for the last time in 2015, but he still stands above the rest of the team. He is perhaps the best breeding bird that team Freialdenhofen has ever had. Not only his direct youngsters were excellent performers: his grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and even his great-greatgrandchildren have helped team Freialdenhofen excel. This team has won an incredible number of national and international victories over the years. And this pigeon has had many years of service as a breeding bird. Forrest Gump spent the last couple of years in a box on his own, which he genuinely deserved. Is there any fancier that has had even more talented breeder in his collection? A breeder whose direct descendants have won so many victories over the years? Forrest Gump is a phenomenon indeed. One of his direct sons, racing bird , is the national winner from Perpignan in 2014, which goes to show that Forrest Gump was still breeding national champions even at the age of 12. Another son of him, Son Forrest Gump , is the sire of Forrest Junior , winner of a 1st International Pau in Forrest Gump originates from the old bloodlines of Team Freialdenhofen, based around the lines of the Saya Brothers from The Netherlands, combined with pigeons of Yves van de Poel/Buckley (Geetbets, Belgium). There is no denying that the fanciers of Team Freialdenhofen are excellent at breeding new champions, and that is one of the reasons behind their many successes in the extreme long distance.
