3 THE HILLS BUDGERIGAR AUCTION The Hills District Branch auction has built a reputation as an auction that supplies birds of tremendous quality. The club places the strongest emphasis on sourcing only the finest birds available for this event and hence numbers are strictly limited. The auction boasts a strong range of breeders who have had success at every level of competition. This includes numerous Australian National, State Challenge, BSNSW Annual Show and Club Grand Champion/Best in Show wins. We invite you to the HILLS BUDGERIGAR AUCTION and to take the opportunity of being able to buy top quality birds from the studs of some of Australia s finest breeders. TRANSPORT For interstate visitors flying into Sydney we have arranged a morning pickup service from the airport to our auction venue. This service will depart the airport sharply at 8:00am so please book flights accordingly. Please take into consideration possible delays caused by fog during this time of the year when making bookings. There will be no charge for this service but places will be limited so it is absolutely essential that you book your spot as soon as possible. Failure to do so might mean you miss out. Bookings Harry Charalambous or harry@planassist.com.au INTERSTATE BIDDERS WELCOME The club is more than happy to assist interstate bidders in any way possible. For those wishing to attend the auction we are happy to provide information on local accommodation and provide directions on how to get to the auction venue. For those unable to attend we can assist with bidding. This can be done by setting a limit for any lots prior to the auction. We then have somebody bid on your behalf to that limit. Of course if the bird sells for an amount under your limit you only pay that amount. If the bird goes over your limit then obviously you miss out. Alternatively, we can setup telephone bidding for you on the day of the auction. You then have the ability to listen in on any of the lots you may be interested in and bid via the telephone. For any purchases made by people not able to attend the auction the club will supply a suitable freight box and then arrange transport to the airport for your birds, both of these at no cost to the purchaser. The cost of freight and collection at the destination airport will however, be the responsibility of the purchaser. Payment needs to be arranged in advance but can be made by credit card (no surcharge), direct deposit into our bank account or by cheque (no birds to leave until cheques have cleared). IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INTERSTATE TRAVELERS Australian Air Express at Sydney airport closes at 3:00pm on Saturdays so we suggested that all interstate visitors that intend returning home with birds should have them at the Australian Air Express counter no later than 2:30pm (phone Australian Air Express on to make your own reservations). Alternatively, birds can be left with our carers along with a suitable travel cage and we will organise to freight the birds at your expense as soon as possible the following week. Please phone Peter prior to the auction if you would like to leave them with our carers. NO CREDIT CARD SURCHARGE V3_

4 BREEDERS PROFILES CLINTON AULT (South Queensland) 4 times ANBC winner; Cinnamonwing (04), Normal (06), Normal (07), Opaline AOSV (08) and many other placings. This stud was founded originally on Pilkington and Moffat bloodlines, however in the recent years birds have strongly influenced the features of this stud of Budgerigars. These are the only birds that will be made available at auction in JOHN BARDEN has been breeding budgerigars for over twenty years concentrating on Normal, Opaline, Spangle & Recessive Pied. John represented NSW at the 2007 National in the Spangle class and has won many major awards locally with his most recent success being Best Old Recessive Pied and Best Young Normal at the BS NSW Annual 2008, Best Opposite Sex Young Newcastle 2008, Champion Old, Champion Old Opposite Sex, Best Normal, Best Cinnamon Old and Best Normal Young, Canberra Annual Best Opposite Sex Young, Best Normal and Best Opaline Newcastle Best Normal Central Coast 2011 and Best Opaline Hills Terry Bevan has been breeding birds for more years than he can remember. He has had five birds represent NSW at the Nationals and has placed second on two occasions. He has also won numerous Grand Champions and other champion awards. Terry breeds Normals, Opalines and Cinnamonwings, but his favourite varieties are Harlequins, Face and Albino. At present Terry is nearing completion of the Judges training program. DES & MATT CAMPBELL are a father and son partnership that have had 22 birds represent NSW at National level in 8 different varieties, with a National win in 2007 with a faced, all other birds benched have finished on the top row at the Nationals. In 2011, we ran 2nd and 4th in the Spangle Double Factor class. In the last twelve months we have shown at six shows, winning five Grand Champions and winning Champion Young Bird at the only show we did not win Grand Champion. We were looking forward to showing at the 2012 National, but are unable to as Matthew is judging. WALLY CAPPER A breeder who is striving to achieve a stud in which all varieties share a common bloodline. As the results of his birds at shows in recent years indicate, this objective is steadily coming together. The Capper stud is based primarily on the Binks bloodline, obtained from Garry stock. Outcrosses to the stud have come from Scoble, Kakoschke and Henry. Over the past eight years Wally has had 18 birds represent NSW at the Nationals in the following varieties: Normal, wing, Cinnamon, Opaline, Texas Clearbody, Spangle, Spangle Double Factor, Dominant Pied & Blackeyed. Strong results have been achieved at the Nationals including: rd in Spangle Double Factor: st in Cinnamon: nd in Normal & 3rd in Texas Clearbody: nd in Dominant Pied & 5th in Opaline: st in wing. KEN DUNK a well known South Queensland open breeder has bred Budgerigars since 1952, off and on and has decided to retire from the hobby. He is a two time National winner, 2008 Spangle Double Factor WA and 2009 Normal Tasmania. Also third 2008 Spangle, 6th in face, 8th in Cinnamonwing, th face, 2011, 13th Opaline, 17th Spangle. He also had other birds represent Queensland at the Nationals. He has won many awards throughout South Queensland. His bloodline is mainly G., B. Smith, R. Manvel & J. Scoble. Mark and Rebecca Fellows are a husband & wife team whom have returned to breeding budgerigars in 2003 after completely selling out in 2001.A relatively new stud of birds based predominately on bloodline. Although reluctant exhibitors, some of the more notable results are, three Grand Champion awards all with different birds. Four NSW State representatives & one National win. A stud which takes pride in the overall health and well being of its stock while also keeping in sight its aim to breed the modern day bird.

5 GARY GAZZARD has been breeding budgerigars for 27 years. He imported birds in the early nineties from E Sigston, T&C Pilkington & Eric Lane along with Binks blood obtained later and they are the foundation of his current stud. He is an inductee of the ANBC Hall of Fame and a National accredited judge. He has been successful on the show bench with nine National Logies and numerous State Representatives. Last year winning NBC Annual Grand Champion five years in a row. Main varieties bred are, Normals, Spangles, Cinnamons and Dark Factors. CEC AND BRENDA GEARING (Western Australia) After a lifetime in Budgerigars, were in 2002 persuaded to take an active part in the National Championships. Having won their share of all major awards shows in WA., they went on to record five National wins, eight seconds, eleven thirds, eleven fourths and numerous minor placings. With the exception of Blackeyes and Fallows, they have represented WA in all other classes, amassing a total of over 1000 points for their State- considered by them their greatest achievement. State wins this year include the Derby and State Show Grand Champion and the Young Hens Championship. They believe they have continued to break new ground with their champion family, with strength of head, face, neck and shoulder qualities, inspired by internet competition with the UK Henry (South Queensland) 2012 Since 1990 Henry has been Australia s most successful breeder at National level, having won 21 firsts, 24 seconds, following his three seconds in 2011, and 19 thirds, along with countless minor placings. In total Henry now has won 28 firsts. In the last sixteen years, excluding the four years he judged the Nationals. Henry has had 165 birds benched in the South Queensland team. In 2004 Henry was the first breeder admitted to the ANBC Hall of Fame. His success has been obtained with Normal s, s, s and s, Dominant Pieds, faced s,opalines, Red Eyes, Cinnamons, Spangles, Clearwings and in the Hens class. The stud is based on Mannes but also contains many English bloodlines including Sadler, Moffat, Binks, Pilkington, Snell, Sherman, Topliss, Watts, Wheeler, Norris, Wheatley and Cox. These lines have been blended together over many years to form the super stud it is today. Ian Hanington has won more National awards than any actively exhibiting breeder in NSW. He has attained an amazing 17 National Champions, winning with Normal s and s, Opalines, Cinnamons x 2, Faced s x 2 and of course Fallows. On five occasions he has won 1st and 2nd in a variety (Fallows four times, Cinnamon once). As a specialist Fallow breeder Ian has taken this variety to levels never seen before in this country and probably the world. To accompany Ian s National success he has won countless Grand Champions, & Champion Young Birds in Show. Following his win in the Cinnamon class at the 2009 National in Tasmania, he again won the Fallow class in Rockhampton last year. He also placed 4th & 6th in the Lacewings at the same show. The exact number of NSW representitives that he has had so far is a bit of a mystery, but he knows that it is in excess of 80. The 2010 young birds have been shown at 2 shows only during 2011, resulting in a Best Young Bird in Show at Newcastle, & Best Young Bird Opposite Sex in Northern NSW Annual Show. Ian was inducted into the A.N.B.C. Hall of Fame in 2004 & was made a Life Member of the B.S.N.S.W. In Currently one of his passions is trying to improve the show qualities of his melanistic Spangles. ALAN KENT (South Queensland) two time ANBC winner, Spangle (2009) and Hen (2004) plus numerous other placings over more than twenty years for both NSW and Qld. Retired from active competition after relocating from Sydney to the Gold Coast in Resumed in the hobby in 1999 and has built up a consistently winning stud of birds based on Moffat and Mannes imports. His stud of quality line bred birds features length, modern face and clean heads and is considered to be amongst the best in Qld. Photos and pedigrees of Alan s birds can be viewed on his website, alankentbudgerigars.co

Whilst Allan no longer attends shows as frequently as he once did, he still maintains a stud of budgerigars of exceptional quality with occasional outcrosses of super birds from the aviaries of Garry, Bob Smith, Clint Ault, Mark Fellows, Cec Gearing, Ray and Sheppard & Flanagan. ROWE BROTHERS The Rowe brothers started breeding budgerigars in 1976 as kids and were foundation members of the former West Gippsland Budgerigar Society which is part of the now Gippsland Budgerigar Society, and were breeding and showing until 1980 when other interests took over. The partnership was reformed in 1992 with John and Greg, and a couple of years later David followed and the three brothers joined forces and became the now Rowe Brothers partnership. All brothers breed the Normal Varieties and specialise in a minor variety, John with Albinos, Greg with Lacewings and David with Recessive Pieds and Blackeyed s. Since 1992 they have had much success on the bench, both locally and at National level. Their success includes 3 wins, 1 second and 2 thirds at National level, as well as 18 Melbourne Shield wins and 7 Diploma wins. Their results at National level include: 1st - Opaline, Albino and Lutino; 2nd - Blackeyed Self; 3rd - Albino and Blackeyed Self; 4th - Opaline and Opaline Cinnamon; 8th - Normal. family have had a lot of success with their s at National shows with two wins in 2004 with a cock and 2011 with a hen.
